Well, hijacking or not, next the HDTV debacle. When you go look at them at a place such as Walmart those TV are really not high definition. 1024x768 is not high definition. 1050lines of vertical resolution I think is the standard for high definition. So, in the end, because people will not buy a $3000 or so or even more or less depending on size TV set, the converters are coming out this month.

just because the government is spending $1.5 billion dollars to give you up to two coupons worth $40 dollars for a converter box. Guess what, even at the price mentioned there of only $40-$70 for a converter box, I guess that will do. Why? I have VHS yet, and Beta (yes - and it was still better) and old movies anyway. Only some are DVD's and I watch those on my computer with my new widescreen computer monitor. At 1920 x 1200 resolution (although like an LCD or cheap one) it will handle 1050 lines of resolution and perhaps just a graphic card may do also (but usually I tend to shy away from those type of graphic cards because usually the resolution has been less - but I am sure someone will make something to hook up something for the computer and HDTV somehow) it looks fine for what I have now anyway which is usually just StarGate SG-1 series and cheap movies. Blu-ray I do not need, and I doubt if I will spend money on everything that comes out new. Anyway, Blu-ray has won, so that I guess will be standard now (until something new comes out).

just in the News today over there at the BBC.
Anyway if I wanted to spend $799 on a sub-woofer speaker, the JBL's have a Kevlar Impregnanted Cone, so also if necessary you can listen to music in your vehicle and get between them and they stop bullets now -- JBL cares for you. Actually the stopping bullets part from drive-by action I do not really know about - but it seemed like something like a joke to me. Those scientists and engineers are caring for you and you can live to tell about it because those JBL speakers also saved your life with having Kevlar Impregnanted Cones in those car-audio speakers. Handling 600 watts of power for the 15 inch dual cone sub-woofer and peaks of 5000 watts (really) with test reports to show, I still cannot imagine having something that goes that loud. Since a low-power amp may still harm the speaker (by not having enough power for the speaker - which I guess never happened to my speakers as of yet) I just am not going to hear it that loud anyway.
I just thought that was kind of funny -- the new Kevlar Impregnanted Speaker Cones for your car (vehicle). I doubt if they stop bullets though, but hey, it's something to muse about.
Oh, I just have to smile sometimes on what speaker engineers and scientists will dream up next to use.
But I guess my TV will still be used as Panasonics never seem to quit like some Sony TV sets I know (or monitors also).
But then, a person could spend a lot of money on such stuff but again NAD has a cheap amp for sell like the one that started up the business and puts out 50Wx2 so I suppose that will sell again over there in Great Britian. But I suppose a person can buy $1500 cameras and $1500 amps and speakers if a person wants to along with HDTV sets, but the cheap sets (which it seems that only people are buying) will not actually have the resolution of real HDTV and a converter box with a tuner and a regular ol' TV antenna will still work (if you get good reception) so the old TV and VCR's will still work.
I guess it is status quo or something like that, and that costs -- m-o-n-e-y!
It's not having computer speakers though for those DVD movies watching on the computer, but having a stereo system (and only stereo not 5.1 surround or 7.1 surround - although I do have surround good enough for four speakers which I used to use - usually something like called Dolby Surround) that was and is still good enough for me. All I need really is some circuit board computer cleaner anyway - a good dusting off - and yes, some work cleaning the stupid electronic consumer equipment.)
All the fancy stuff someone richer than me will have to buy it.
Who has time for it all anyway?
I have got old stuff to fix up anyway like I said and it still pretty well works, and it all gets dirty and dusty anyway in the end no matter what.
(The JBL speakers I have are music speakers for playing music through -- although the about same speakers back then with a white cone was for stereos with supposedly better transcient response but handled the same power and about looked the same except for the white speaker cone.)
Although now, a person can get a Kevlar Impregnanted Speaker Cone!
I have to again laugh a little and smile on that one. I think those speaker scientists and engineers do have a sense of humor. (?)
(Those speakers saved my life when the radicals came buy with the drive-by shootings.)
(And I also listen to music witht them while talking about it.)
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!

I suppose nanotechnology will be next, as in wear your speakers for music maybe for something different. Anyway, all the electroic consumer stuff like iPods have too small of controls for my fingers. So, when I got a plastic pointer for my camcorder, at least I still can use the touch screen with my fingers -- the first thing probably lost would be that couple of inch like plastic pen thingy pointer to touch the screen with.
By the time a person reads completely how to use all that menu-item stuff, a person don't have time to use it if a person can remember it all anyway. I get that with my camcorder, so that's about it for me. People could not even learn to program a VCR recorder because of the instructions for that mess when it came out (or did not want to anyway.)
:D
Now they have remote controls people can just stare at anyway also.
