My question is this: if you are able to get back to your time exactly where you left off (or, "seconds later" from when you left).. then why have you been gone for 4 years? If, whenever you get this machine fixed, you can go back to 2036 and pick up there - then why travel to 2040?

You missed the point. Boomer's sig was TimeTravel0 prior to his departure - not TimeTravel_0. The fact that you couldn't use an underscore should not have caused you any concern at all - if you were Boomer. He knew why he couldn't use it.
 
Ok, this is my 1st post. This place seems very interesting. I would just like to add, that regardless of what anyone (time traveler, or con artist) says about earthquakes happening in the near future. No one is going to be able to prevent them from happening. It is after all an earthquake. Also no one is going to truely believe him (or her) until the predicted event occurs. So the events would unfold as such:

1) The prediction is made that an earthquake will occurr on the ring of fire.
2) The earthquake either happens or it doesn't.

There is really nothing more anyone can do about this sequence of events. So being vague has no purpose. The suposed time traveler could give us names of everyone who's gong to die, how many fractions of an inch the fault will move, etc. Until the events occur, the only people who will listen to a bunch of cracks from a web forum, are those cracks on the web forum. Therefor, regardless of encylopedias of knowledge about the predicted earthquake, you will not prevent the earthquake, nor the events which will occur as a result. (at least no substantial changes can occur in the case of the subsiquent events)
 
Darby, the new turns in the said Titor debacle, are that Titor went rebel.

This means that he is not allegiant to the future, however bound to the past.

This means not only a change in identify, however ways and means.

He could have bought a new computer, arranged an indenity, found a way to subsist here, in either this time, or in a time before this one?

It might be that the future for Titor is simply too hard to exist in, a mental thing dealing with keeping his mind, so could have gone renegade and tried to escape to the past.

Krep is the key, as in similar fashion to Steve, he has a portable TD unit, that can part time and space very simply.

The future may or may not have unfurled into a holocaust or utter destruction?

It may be that life is so complex in the future tense, that Titor would have come back here, if only for the peace of mind.

This might even be in a new car showroom, where JT is sitting in a new model and the salesmen ask him if he is considering a purchase.

JT says, I might, however is hesitant.

JT ask about tomorrow and the salesmen ask him, "Its not like the worlds going to end tomorrow, is it mister"?

JT might say under his breath, >"You don't know the half of it, pal"?!

For the almost stage production of Titor coming here, I would say that any new identity is possible, also ways and means.

Everyone might be saying,"Oh JT' we've simply got to get you back to your future"?!

JT might be saying, "Get the Hell away from me, what are you crazy or something?I sure don't want to go back there........???

My time in this worldline has had a lot of unexpected twist's. I was not expecting to stay in this worldline as long as I have been. I was originally going to leave 6 month's after my entrance to this world line. So to answer your question, yes. I have been working at a local resteraunt in order to survive in this worldline.

Believe it or not, someone from the future still has to worry about his own future. I've come back to see if this worldline even existed, what I found was shocking. Now I need to go forward, so that my worldline can prepare for it's own future. It's my job, and personal reason's why I am here. When I get back, my job isn't over. Believe it or not, my job isn't only limited to researching your worldline.
 
This forum is quite interesting indeed, and this thread is even more interesting. There are certain things that I found "entertaining" so far.

1) To the person who said that they are working on their Top Secret Clearance to enter a Time Travel Project.

Oh My God. Top Secret? Please! You would actually need cosmic secret just to have access to see the director’s lunch menu. There are many more levels of clearance than just Secret, Top Secret, Classified Secret, and it is definitely not something you just "work on" getting.

2) To the person whose "grandfather told you in great detail about Roswell".
Uhh nope, try again.
Let me explain what happens when you reach a level of clearance above the presidents. You are watched for the rest of your life. Your house is bugged, your phones are tapped, and you become a child of Big Brother Baby Sitting Service. When your "grandfather" retired, and if he had that level of clearance, he would have never said anything to you. If he was that high up in the ladder, then they would know about you, and that you posted on this forum saying that you know something. You and your entire family would currently be missing persons.

Certain things about the future that could be revealed with out damaging the fabric of time itself.
1) What is the current speed of the Oceanic Conveyor Belt in 203X?
2) What is the current age of water at the end of the Belt in 203X?

Also, it was mentioned that much of this part of history was lost? So you can travel through time, but cannot read a book?
If all information about this time period was destroyed or fragmented, how did technology continue to advance as fast as you claim?

Indeed, the future has searched for history book's that were made in 2000 - 2010 (that is the part of history we lose). So far we have nothing, so I was sent back in time to find any evidence that this world line even exist's. As far as technology goes, you don't need a book to know how to build a radio, or T.V. some people just know. Those people help us to regain our knowledge after 2010, and pick up where we left off. For example, my father was alway's good with car's. After 2010 he helped other's with car knowledge to build car's. I bet you don't need a book for everything do you? If you do then maybe your not learning at all. Those book's were written by people who didn't have a book. People who knew from their own knowledge. Technology grow's from the human's knowledge.

As long as I am at a sort of communication with you, I am very intrested as to how Philosophy and Spirituality survive a devestating time sch as the was you have described. I would imagine it hard to find a loving God in a world of destruction and hate such as the one you have described. However, you have also stated that a beleif in God is still very strong in your time, and people are much more to eachother's different beliefs and feelings, which I wholeheatedly beleieve is a step in the right direction from ever allowing such things to happen in the first place. What your time-travelling stories tell us, underneath all the facts, is that the world we currently live in, the worldline that we are createing, if you will, is one leading to destruction, famine, and war.

But what if its not too late? Sure, as individuals we may not be able to do much, but as a group we can change everything. I see this sort of thinking sprouting up everywhere I look. I see a sense of individual pride overtaking many of the people in this country, and the civil war you have mentioned many times before does not seem such a alien idea to me now. Its the only fact that gives me any reason to believe you. The way things in this world are heading, destruction is nigh, unless we as a country can rise up and decide to do something to change it.

One of my best friends has a gun cabnit and much knowledge. Prehaps I should start learning. You said before that you were tired of seeing people killing eachother? Prehaps just by what little effect you have had here, you have prevented a masure of it, by preparing just a few people for what seems to be an inveitable destruction.

Right, but why cant you go back to 2036 like was originally intended? If you dont want to miss out on 4 years of your Earth.. then why dont you just go back to 2036?

Besides, your mission was for a 5100 that was supposed to reach your people before 2038 (the time Unix dies I believe)...

my question again is why travel to 2040 when you can go back through your "present time", which is 2036, where you left off?

True, but self-knowledge can only get you so far. This is why people take notes. I mean, I work on cars too, but I cannot remember every torque setting for every bolt on my engine. Every engine is different so that would be much to remember. My mechanic that I have for my drag car cannot even remember every little setting.

Also, books are written by people. So unless there is no one in the future above the age of 50, then I can not understand why no one knows what happened in this time period. We have a world of knowledge currently about what happened in ancient Egypt, Rome, Greece, ect, and we didn’t need a time machine for that era. For the amount of knowledge to be lost during this era would almost seem impossible.
History books are written everyday. There are billions of them. So every school, library, internet site, and computer disappeared in your time, or??

There is one other thing that is bothering me that was said: Something about this small amount of interaction will not cause a ripple large enough to damage the future.
I am going to have to disagree with that. There is no such thing as a small ripple.
Example:
I am surfing the web and come across this site. Normally, I would just read a bit and continue on, but the thought or idea (or the chance to disprove a claim) that some one is from the future, intrigues me to stay longer. So I stay longer than I would have normally. Now, this is ok, but I am currently missing a date with my girlfriend. I jump up, get in the car and take off down the road because I am now late.
Now because I am late, I am driving recklessly, and hit some one and kill them.
The person I hit (we will call him bob) is a known rapist. Bob was supposed to be going to a victim’s house (we will call her Mary).
Bob was supposed to rape Mary, which would have caused her to attempt to kill herself. But she was stopped, and decides to try her life over again but in California. In California, she was supposed to meet a man and get married to him, and they were supposed to have a son. (ya see where this is going?)
But since I have killed Bob, none of these events will happen.


Well this is just me. I enjoy a good brainteaser.

Aw, I go away for two days and miss my chance to expose Derek for the fool he is. I recognize that shotty writing anywhere--the rambling, lack of coherent idea progression, and especially the apostrophes to show plurality.

Derek: You are nothing like John Titor, whether he was a hoax or not, and you have proved nothing. Furthermore, since when did you become the authority on intelligence?
