Re: I\'ve Gone back 2000 YEARS
"The Gospels are NOT historical documents, they are the mythical work of anonymous authors."
Just because you say it is so, doesn't make it so.
The Gospels ARE historic documents and they are not written by anonymous authors. The introduction of the Gospel of Luke makes this clear to see:
"Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word. Therefore, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, it seemed good also to me to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught."
He investigated it, from eyewitnesses, and he studied the accounts that others have written. Sounds like the exact same methods that historians use today.
"Why is there no contemporary Roman record of 500 people seeing Jesus' alleged resurrection? Or the earthquakes and adverse weather that occurred? They tended to be sticklers for beuracracy so may have possibly commented on something of that nature."
Why is it that you spelt bureaucracy, 'beuracracy'? Are we not a society with ample dictionaries? Are we not even a society with automatic spell checks among other things?
There is other historical writings supporting the crucifixion of Christ.
Tacitus, a Roman historian who despised Christians, wrote of their persecution in his Book ‘Annals’ (circa AD 115):
“To dispel the rumour, Nero substituted as culprits, and treated with the most extreme punishments, some people, popularly known as Christians, whose disgraceful activities were notorious. The originator of that name, Christus, had been executed when Tiberius was Emperor, by order of the procurator Pontius Pilatus. But the deadly cult, though checked for a time, was now breaking out again not only in Judea, the birthplace of this evil, but even throughout Rome, where all the nasty and disgusting ideas from all over the world pour in and find a ready following."
Annals 15 : 44
This confirms that Christ was the founder of a religious movement in Judea, that He lived in the reign of the Emperor Tiberius and that He was executed under the directions of Pilate.
The Jewish historian Josephus also wrote about Christ, in his work Antiquities (circa AD 93:
“About this time there lived Jesus, a wise man, if indeed one ought to call him a man. For he was one who performed surprising deeds and was a teacher of such people as accept the truth gladly. He won over many Jews and many of the Greeks. He was the Messiah. And when, upon the accusation of the principal men among us, Pilate had condemned him to a cross, those who had first come to love him did not cease. He appeared to them spending a third day restored to life, for the prophets of God had foretold these things and a thousand other marvels about him. And the tribe of the Christians, so called after him, has still to this day not disappeared.â€
So, in addition to the historical accounts of the Gospels, we have these other works.
So please, don’t give me any more baloney about Jesus being a myth: He existed, He was crucified and yes, we believe that He rose again. In my case, the truth of His death and resurrection has been displayed to me before my own eyes.
