If people really want answers about themselves and the world they have to find it themselves, and anyone who searches the history of religions will see they are all darker than nightshade, and it should be plianly obvious that religions were the answer of ignorant men to explaining the world around them. Men who later realised the benefit of mass organised religion and its controls.

There is such a "group". It is called Marxist-Leninist and Maoist-Leninist Communism. They believe in the fundamentals of "scientific" dialectic. In their atheist religion everything in life - everything - is based on the scientific dialectic found in their four "bibles": The Communist Manifesto, Das Institut, Das Capital and The Thoughts of Chairman Mao.

It fits your description quite nicely. The true believers - the Revolutionary Vanguard - are just as rabid as any extreme religious fundamentalist. Every act taken in the life of a true communist has to find its motivation and justification in one of those books. If an action is taken in violation of those tombs then a session of "Criticism/Self-Criticism" must be held by his/her revolutionary cadre to re-educate the offender.

Atheist 'religion'?? Come off it, I don't believe in any gods and have never read any of the above texts - is this your Christian fundie onanist fantasy spilling out onto the interweb? The Evil Communist Conspiracy Of Atheists? Can I generalise and lump all of you fundies in with right-wing neo-con capitalist pig dogs then? Oh I can, quelle surprise!?!

I agree that Das Kapital isn't exactly the "atheist bible". Most atheists (and most anything elses for that matter) are capitalists. And there plenty of Christian and Islamic socialists (I'm one of the former). A pox on Darby's post.
