I don't think that Adam and Eve would have remained childless had they not sinned. I believe that after the sin, childbirth became more painful for the woman. This would suggest that it wasn't before the fall? And that it existed before the fall? Hence adam and eve would have been able to multiply with out sinning.
Gen 3:16
To the woman he said,
"I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing;
with pain you will give birth to children.
Your desire will be for your husband,
and he will rule over you."
