Think if you were a time traveler and a person asked you this question would you even CARE who the heck he married?

Now you know how I feel when people try to make claims such as yours above. Since time travelers are not real (in accordance with our current knowledge), how can you so confidently state what some alleged time traveler is NOT?

Turn your irritation around, and you will understand how others feel when you make pronouncements about things that have no evidence.

You make a mistake when you say "our" because what does "our" include? me and you?
The time travel institute? Everyone in the united states? The whole world? The whole galaxy?
Actually they are not real only according to YOUR current knowledge as you cannot really
speak for others now can you? How can you confidently state that time travelers are not real
if all you really have to go on is your own knowledge as I assume you are not all knowlegeable
as God who knows what every single person in the whole physical creation and other dimensions knows.

That bunch might be a little more to your liking. They are more friendly and less hostile crowd of people. I came over here looking for someone and found out he was hanging around again back over there. Oh Sprite I forgot the best part. Some of them also are trying to build their own time machine too. Scientists will struggle for decades just to send messages...while their own physical bodies are still very much rooted in their own time. The first evidence of 'time travel' wont be some guy arriving in a Delorean....it will be the time travel equivalent of 'hello world'. Just a simple message.

One would expect to be receiving such looooong before the Deloreans turn up.

Did I imply anywhere that I thought this? In point of fact, I have been extremely consistent about this very topic on this forum for all the years I have been here. I have stated, over and over, that "time travel will not take on the look and feel of the romanticized stories where whole humans are transported across time."

Through fairly rigorous scientific analysis, myself and others here have shown that: If you wish to hold space constant and travel across time, then the only other physical metric (mass) must "give way" in order to maintain conservation of energy and momentum. In other words, you cannot get around your body having to change mass (and significantly so!) if you are traveling across time.

So my claim is you will NEVER see time travel occur as in the HG Wells classic, or any of the other stories where Johnny jumps into time machine in 2040 and jumps out in 1999 without being changed.

I was aiming at the author of the thread.....yet another of those un-genuine ' I've hopped in my Delorean and come back to 2009 ' types.

I'm not so sure travel for people will always be impossible. However, what is certain is that 'time travel' will begin with information transmission. My guess would be that the advent of quantum computers, and the use of quantum entanglement, will make this possible.

Why not hold mass constant and change space?

Entirely true for relativistic type time travel. Though methods such as frame dragging involve the motion of space itself....and the 'relative' appearance of travelling faster than light.

I realize that you put a smiley after the comment but the reason that we don't do so is because Maxwell's equations for electrodynamics were in conflict with time, space and mass being constants. They simply aren't constants. They depend on the ralative velocity between the frames of reference and the local gravitational field (from the Observer's POV).
