The theory of multiple universes was not only abandoned, but outpostulated long before time-travel ever began. The fact is, it doesn't really solve the grandfather paradox by entering a multiple universe, for the simple reason because it means that someone can't enter your universe's history and kill your grandfather, whether it's another you or someone else. Either way, you have "restricted" free will. The fact is, such other universes are unlikely to exist in the first place.

I'm not a techinician, so I can't give you absolute specifics. As far as I know, the computer is as fast as it can be, but other than that, there is nothing special about it; all it needs is the programs needed to calculate various phenomena: the position of the Earth relative to ours, the information sequences given off by the object inside, air density inside the sphere: any unknown pressures, whether any of the lasers are smudged/damaged, etc.
It's not a simple laser. just like X-rays can see your bones and some of your skin, in the same way, they've composed it to somehow be able to scan your entire body with subatomic particles which record information. The lasers are invisible to the naked eye, and we call them that for convenience.
Honestly, I'm not lying to you, I have never seen that movie.

Whether you believe me or not, I am being completely honest when I say this is the first time I've even heard of the book. I'll try to get the book (I'm living a good deal far away from any library; I'm in a farm). Since I'm in the process of finding certain things at the moment, it'll be a while before I'm able to do that though.

Do you compress all of your information using a lossless fractal algorithm on a quantum computer using all 32 quantum states of an electron and compressing a living object into an electron stream and then transport it through a quantum foam wormhole back in time and then reconstruct it again like Timeline? /ttiforum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

So let's see if I understand this. We have a time traveling redneck farmboy semi-volunteer lab rat from the future who can get admitted to a CSU, which isn't a CSU anymore, but doesn't know his own age. Further, this person predicts things which are in the past and copies theories from movies as his own. He is serenaded in the nude by David Bowie after shaving his body hair and being drugged by his scientist buddies, while being treated to a light show. And he likes to shave cats. I'm not sure what to think. :oops:
If that's from the movie or book, then I see why you'd think I read it. No, I don't know if all 32 quantum states of the electron are used. All I know is that the time machine first scans the object, and this information is sent into the past, where the object reappears being translated by an initially sent field which is calculated to start the process and end with an exact duplicate of the original. The original is "vaporized" in the lab after the copy in the past is successfully reconstructed. You are purposefully unconsciouss for several hours after that, which takes no less than a moment.

If I were here to convince you of something, that by itself would be proof that I'm not from any future, but a future asylum. The fact remains, I haven't started making predictions about every day next week, since no one 40 years in the future can know such specific and unimportant with respect to world history events. Do you even know what events happened 40 years ago in exactly the week of Feb.6-13, 1980? 1990? Do you know the lotto numbers for even yesterday off the top of your head at all?

They recreate the timehole which sent me, the field which scans me in the sphere is itself translated, scans me, and I'm retranslated back. They can do this at any time they want, but it's generally scheduled for a time and place by which I should have completed the mission, and if I haven't, I don't go back to the spot.
What if someone else climbs in there instead while you are out on your mission? Can they go back instead of you?

What would otherwise be a dangerous situation is ingeniously alleviated by the fact that the return scan makes a lot of assumptions based on the initial scan. Only about 2-3% of me is actually retranslated back, most of it being the brain (the rest is pieces of hair, etc). No part of me gets retranslated back outside of my head pretty much. Unfortunately, if someone did step in there, it would translate him. Fortunately, there have been no such incidents, seeing as it's an abandoned farm (and we can send them back anyway, though some might joke and say our secret can only be safe if we kill them). When I'm retranslated, all the dust, etc comes with me, but it can't interfere with my retranslation back to the future (my present) since it would not be retranslated based on the assumptions (intial scan) which is the model.
