Black Box Voting - The End of Democracy?

Voting machine problems bedevil at least three states
Updated 11/7/2006 10:59 AM ET

By Douglas Stanglin, USA TODAY
Election machine glitches caused delays and jangled nerves in at least three states today as voters began turning out for midterm elections that could set the tone for the last two years of President Bush's term in office.
Up for grabs are all 435 House seats, 33 Senate seats and governorships in 36 states as well as ballot initiatives in some states on such topics as gay marriage and stem-cell research.

Voting was delayed in dozens of precincts in Indiana and Ohio, while in Florida some election officials had little choice but to turn to paper ballots instead.

"We got five machines — one of them's got to work," said Willette Scullank, a troubleshooter from the Cuyahoga County, Ohio, elections board.

Election officials in Delaware County, Ind., planned to seek a court order to extend voting after an apparent computer error prevented voters from casting ballots in 75 precincts. Delaware County Clerk Karen Wenger said the cards that activate the machines were programmed incorrectly.

"We are working with precincts one-by-one over the telephone to get the problem fixed," Wenger said.

Problems in Ohio and Florida? What a surprise! :)
Sounds more like voter supression in Democratic poll locations within Republican Districts.

Re: Voting Problems Appear Early - USAToday.com

Now that I have done my civic duty and voted, I felt it was a good time to finally call CigMan on his obvious partisan wrangling, and his distinct "one-sided" reporting... against the Republicans.

Ciggy, if you want to talk about the potential for "voter fraud", how come you never bring up some of the most egregious "holes" that have been favored by your Democratic friends? Why do you never speak about the TRUTH of so-called "motor voter bills"? Are you willing to face the truth of these mechanisms that make it easier to register to vote than it is to withdraw money from your bank account? These bills, passed in MANY states, supported by Democrats (who stand to benefit from people with minimal educations, who can't figure out how to properly register to vote), and derided by Republicans because it....wait for it... ALLOWS A GREAT MANY PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT QUALIFIED TO VOTE TO BECOME REGISTERED!

Your partisanship is so overt, I would think it would be pretty much impossible for you to deny it. But then again, knowing you as I do, I am sure you will. As with most Democrats, your tactics are all about demonizing the Republicans rather than they are about solving problems and actually getting something done! Don't you realize that this was what lead to your party losing control of Congress in the first place? All your party could do is trash the Republicans and their ideas, and they seem to think that is all that is needed to win. And we see this same tactic in force for this election. Has ANYONE seen or heard ANY Democratic candidate who ACTUALLY PROPOSED A SOLID PLAN FOR IRAQ? I have heard NONE. All I have heard is bashing Bush and his policies in Iraq. It is fine (and part of the American Way) to express dissent against current policies and actions... but someone who wants change, and a different way, must then go further. They must then propose what THEY would do differently. I have heard none of this from the Democratic candidates.

I know the Republican party is not perfect. There are good people and bad people in ALL organizations. That is statistically the truth. But I would appreciate it if you would stop ignoring that there are also good people AND BAD PEOPLE in the Democratic party... and that some of your party's ideologies are no better (and in some cases WORSE) for our Republic than those of the Republican party.

RMT,

Again you are mistaken that I care what you think... :)

But as for "Why do you never speak about the TRUTH of so-called "motor voter bills"? ALLOWS A GREAT MANY PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT QUALIFIED TO VOTE TO BECOME REGISTERED!"

Frankly, I am not familar with these bills... Please provide a link so I may analyze them... But if someone is a citizen and over 18 that makes them qualified to vote.

Just because you don't like Democrats registering people to vote doesn't make it wrong...

As for Iraq, I believe many democrats have stated a slow withdrawl from Iraq as their plan.
You may not like their plan. But its a 'plan' nonetheless. I think Murtha and Reid others have stated these beliefs.

What the Bush Administration, The Project for the New American Century. The Oil Companies and the NEOCONS failed to realize that Iraq was a secular state a buffer against radical fundementalism under Saddam rule. They thought they could liberate Iraq and set up shop in their oil fields and sell Starbucks coffee on their streets.
However, the failed to realize the fundemental tenets of Islam. FIGHT THE INFIDELS. They are few 'terrorists' in Iraq. They are fighting nationalists, fundementalists and the Iraqi army in civilians clothes.

As for the NEOCONS and AIPAC boys have come to realize is in Vanity Fair.

Who says I ignore the Democratic party... I may have many internet 'indenties' and fight oppression and corruption on all fronts... I may have played a part in uncovering of financial scandals in the banking and brokerage industries... But you'll never know :) And who cares what you want? lol :)

Surprisingly few mysterious wins... But lots of close races....

It's seem all the action will be in the Senate Races of Montana and Virginia for recounts and court cases delaying the outcome by weeks if not months.

GOP Control of Senate at risk

Democrats took over the House in Tuesday's midterm elections but Senate control might take weeks to decide, in an election shaped by voter discontent with President Bush and the direction of the Iraq war.
The fate of the Senate rested on a few thousand votes in two states, but the House is not in doubt, with Democrats winning more than 230 seats and a House majority early today.

In Montana, Democratic challenger John Tester, the state Senate president, led incumbent Conrad Burns by around 1,700 votes with 99% of the precincts counted.

In the Virginia race, incumbent Republican Sen. George Allen Jr. trailed Democratic challenger Jim Webb by a few thousand votes out of more than 2.2 million cast.

Dem scrutiny of drugs, defense expected By BRAD FOSS, AP Business Writer
28 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - By boosting the power of Democrats in Congress, voters likely set in motion legislative efforts to lower the price of pharmaceuticals and rein in military spending.

With many political analysts viewing the Democrats win of the House as evidence of waning support for the war in Iraq, some Wall Street analysts are bracing for the possibility that military spending may gradually slow.

Even if Republicans manage to maintain control of the Senate, Arizona Sen. John McCain (news, bio, voting record), a frequent critic of free-spending defense programs, is expected to take over as chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee after Sen. John Warner (news, bio, voting record), R.-Va., steps down because of term limits. McCain has a history of being tough on the defense industry, forcing the Air Force to change the terms of a Lockheed cargo plane contract and helping to uncover wrongdoing by Boeing and a Pentagon official in a separate Air Force tanker contract.

Lockheed Chief Financial Officer Chris Kubasik tried to ease jitters recently, saying the company has "worked well with both parties" and that its business, mostly long-term big ticket contracts, can withstand periodic political changes in Washington.

Re: Voting Problems Appear Early - USAToday.com

Frankly, I am not familar with these bills...

Exactly. And this, in and of itself, provides proof to my allegation that you are slanted in your "analysis". The "motor voter bill" was hailed as a major breakthrough by Democrats (who are willing to take votes wherever they can get them, legal or not, to retake Congress). What has been popularly called the "Motor Voter Act" was passed by Congress in 1994.

http://www.cato.org/testimony/ct-js031401.html

This link gives a good overview of just what the Motor Voter Act accomplished, and more importantly how it actually has lead to HIGHER RATES OF VOTER FRAUD! And you can't blame Republicans for this one, Ciggy, as this was passed into law just prior to the "Republican Revolution". It is well established that the Democratic Party was the largest proponent of this bill. From that article:

"The Motor Voter Act allowed citizens to register to vote simultaneously with an application for a driver's license, by mail, or in person. The Act made it harder to verify the identity of voters seeking to register. It also considerably complicated the states' task of keeping the registration rolls clean. For example, to remove a voter who has moved from the rolls of a voting district, the local jurisdiction has two choices. First, they could get written confirmation of the move from the citizen. Lacking that, the jurisdiction had to send a notice to the voter. If the notice card was not returned and the person did not vote in two general elections for Federal office after the notice was sent, then the jurisdiction could remove their name from the rolls. "

Please provide a link so I may analyze them

http://www.congress.org/sicminc/issues/alert/?alertid=9035491

Analyze away, Mr. Ciggy. Just don't forget to include in your analysis how much this Democratic-sponsored initiatve has actually lead to MORE voter fraud. Indeed, what is ironic about all of this is that this bill could very well have been one of the major causes for "voting irregularities" that swept Bush to his 2000 victory! But, of course, Democrats would never want to admit that! ;) Some quotes from the link just provided:

"Thankfully, Rep. Henry Hyde (R-IL) has introduced H.R. 4844, the "Federal Election Integrity Act" that would help guard against voter fraud. It would amend the "Motor-Voter" bill to REQUIRE states to demand proof of citizenship for voter registration Federal elections. The bill would also require current official photo I.D. when voting."

Now why do you suppose the Democracts sponsored and helped to enact a bill that would not REQUIRE proof of citizenship when registering to vote???? I'd like you analysis on how your "party of perfection" could have allowed something like this to happen. And let's not lose the fact that a REPUBLICAN (Henry Hyde) is proposing to fix the holes in the Democratically-sponsored bill. More from that link:

"The majority of the country supports requiring IDs in order to register or vote, and this bill will go a long way towards stopping the voter fraud that liberal democrats and illegal aliens have engaged in during the last few elections.

Which is why groups affiliated with MoveOn.org are OPPOSING this bill, with emails going to millions of their supporters asking them to contact Congress to defeat it."

Now why would an "upstanding" organization like "MoveOn.org" want to DEFEAT a bill that is trying to prevent voter fraud? Why, indeed! ;)

WASHINGTON - Democrats won a cliffhanger race in Montana on Wednesday that took them to the brink of control of the Senate, after Americans sick of scandal and weary of war brought down the Republican House majority.

"It was a thumpin,'" President Bush told reporters at a White House news conference.

Reflecting the redrawn Washington landscape, Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld agreed to step down, satisfying Democratic demands.

But like I said I support the new Fence along the border. Don't worry about decreases in defense spending. The real work in the new Border security technologies that you and your colleagues can develop.

I can imagine it now... A super secure Border Fence... With sound and motion sensors like Area 51 has... UAVs like the Cypher roaming the skys to alert the Border Patrol...

Or maybe some surveillance robotic insects roaming the Arizona desert with taser technology to stun illegal immigrants...

Lots to read... You want me to attack the Democrats and they are not even in power yet?
Stick to my point and don't try to slide away from it. The point is that the "Motor Voter Bill/Act" WAS FROM WHEN YOUR BUDDIES WERE LAST IN POWER! Basically, it shows that a law that was promoted and enacted by a majority Democratic Congress has lead to MORE voter fraud than what you accuse and allege from Republicans.

And I might also add: Why don't you take note about how the Republicans accept defeat. Do you notice ANY of the sad and childish WHINING going on that you saw from the Democrats in 2000, 2002, and 2004? Hearken back to all that whining about "stolen elections" and challenges of vote counts, and on and on and on. Basically, your party was a bunch of sore losers. Notice that Republicans act quite a bit more like adults. Even Allen in VA is not going to ask for endless recounts... and the vote tally is close enough one would be CERTAIN that if it was the other way around the DEM would be crying foul and demanding recounts until the count came out the way they wanted (such as what happened in the WA governor race in 2004).

But congratulations to you and your party of choice Ciggy. Now it is time to sit-back and watch how YOUR party screws up the country in their own way. No longer will you be able to blame Republicans, and I will certainly be here to "remind" you each and every time we have a crisis that DEM leadership bungles. But I am sure, even then, you will blame it on the "shadow government" who you claim to be all Republicans. Like all ultra-liberals, you want your cake and you want to eat it too Ciggy. That is how you are transparent.

As for "But I am sure, even then, you will blame it on the "shadow government" who you claim to be all Republicans."

I thought I was from the liberal shadow government? Just the other day.

You certainly flop back and forth to make your deluded points Ray.

As for "Notice that Republicans act quite a bit more like adults."

You've been acting like a child micmicing and mocking those you don't deem 'worthy' for weeks if not months or years. If you are a representive of the Republican Party, you're not their greatest spokesmen or image :)

As for "The point is that the "Motor Voter Bill/Act" WAS FROM WHEN YOUR BUDDIES WERE LAST IN POWER!" I'll take your word for it for now. Your reading recommendations are really last on my list. It's so busy here at the Super Secret Bunker of the Liberal Shadow Government. :)

But I'll say this! Democrats will make one their the biggest mistakes with Amnesty Programs for Illegal Immigrants. Illegal Immigrantion is really one of the top 5 issues. There is an attack on the middle class and illegal immigrants undercutting american workers is a big issue of their constituents. Also, The raising of the minimum wage will LOCK OUT american workers making illegal immigration even MORE ATTRACTIVE to law breaking employers.

And also! A withdrawl from Iraq will effectively create an Isalmic Super State as foretold by Micheal Conte that which all of Europe (and the surrounding region) will have to fight because of the Pope residing there.

As for "But I am sure, even then, you will blame it on the "shadow government" who you claim to be all Republicans."

I oppose republican controlled businesses, banks, Presidency, Congress, Military Industrial Complex, AIPAC and the Illumanti. Trust me ray... The Shadow Government are the 'good guys' :) Doesn't this mysterious massive win by the Democrats remind you of a 'Coup d'Etat'? :)

As for "No longer will you be able to blame Republicans, and I will certainly be here to "remind" you each and every time we have a crisis that DEM leadership bungles."

You've been acting like a child micmicing and mocking those you don't deem 'worthy' for weeks if not months or years.

Once again, this is your attempt to avoid the issue. I was pointing out how the Republican Party candidates acted responsibly, compared to the whining Dems in past elections... and you try to make it about me.

I'll take your word for it for now. Your reading recommendations are really last on my list.

If you look back up in this thread, you asked for a link because you were ignorant of this legislation. I provided them in response to your request. If now you simply want to avoid having to read the facts (so you can continue to remain ignorant), I am fine with that... just admit that this is what you want to do, and stop trying to make this somehow about me.

Like I said I vote Independent mostly.

And I vote conscience and issues, not party. You might be surprised to know that I actually voted for Dianne Feinstein (one of our CA DEM Senators), because she has worked with Schwarznegger, she has definitely accumulated years of experience in protecting CA interests, and she is just better than her Repub counterpart. But make no mistake: I ALWAYS vote AGAINST Barbara Boxer (our other Dem Senator) because she is one of those elitist liberals (like Hillary Clinton) who is always talking down to people, as if they got their job because they are better than their constituents. And I also voted for two Libertarian candidates whose positions were conservative with respect to fiscal policy.

I avoid nothing Raymond! :) I think the Republicans conceding was more 'pressure' of the Shadow Government :) That the K-Street, Abramoff, Libby and Rove Scandals are just the tip of the iceberg and for reasons of ENSURING DOMESTIC TRANQUILITY... They did not fight election results. :)

Just a guess :)

As for our voting habits... I don't think people want to read about them Raymond :)

As for Republicans, I think many our "Wannabe Republicans" that the 80s and 90s bull markets and Wall Street growth created them... They thought I wear a suit, I make 50-150K, I work for a corporation so I'm a republican... Republicans are rich and I want to be rich...

I submit that anyone who has to work for a living... Meaning get up and perform everyday... and not an owner of a business is a DEMOCRAT.
