What if...

Temporal Navigator
Hello there,

I was wondering, if someone came here and posted something like this and left, what would be our reaction:

"Ok, here I am, just like you asked. Posting on this forum all the way back in 2014. Is this proof enough to you?"

And what it meant was that someone, for example, in 2040 was in a random forum still discussing if time travel was possible or not, then comes a titor-like member from 2065 who's asked to go back to 2014 and post something here as a test.

I guess we would have to wait until 2040 to know the truth, right?

That would present an interesting test for people claiming to be time travelers that appear now. We could ask that they go back further in time and post a particular string of letters and numbers within this same forum.

That is assuming they have the money, resources, permission, etc.. to fire up the alleged time travel device and go do it. It could potentially take them a lot of time. (They may have to travel in the past, etc.). I'm guessing they would have a "why bother" attitude. :)

If the time traveler posted only once, there might be some responses. However, without a continuous dialogue with the original poster I would think the thread would fade away - since a message meant for people in 2040, would be meaningless to us now .

To change your question a bit. What if the post simply was an answer to a mathematical question given to the time traveler in 2040 ? So the post was just this; " 16 ".

What would your reaction be ?

The problem I see is the span of time you are dealing with. The only person that could benefit from that span of time would be a hoaxter.

Drop the time span down to 24 hour. Have the time traveler post something unpredictable that will occur in that 24 hour span. Now all we need is a list of unpredictable events to choose from, that a real time traveler would have no problem with.

My reaction would be,
"Good God. She's back!"

Just the same! Intrigued!

good point, a post like the one you mentioned would be meaningless, whereas Einstein's TT proof of simply stating something that will happen tomorrow is really the kind of proof that one needs to substantiate a claim of current TT

What is really funny is that no time travel claimant has been able to do that.
Now I still believe time travel is possible and does exist. But the facts show so far that time travelers don't come to internet forums.

It would be a good way to proof TT, but if travelling back produces a divergence, then you cannot predict anything properly because you don't know the outcomes of this new timeline.

Anyway you should be able to predict some close events that shouldn't be affected. Your TT could produce some long-term changes, but the events that not affect you directly shouldn't be altered at short-term.

We're still waiting to for another copy of yourself to come post. ;)

Have some faith in yourself, bud!!!
I have faith in myself. I just doubt I would actually publicly prove I have a time machine.
You are more likely to see me post a thread about how to make a rotating gravity field generator.

Nobody would believe it, anyway. You could post a prediction, though. :) :)
