question?

If it were a lightyear away (and you could some how see your reflection in it!!) you would be looking at yourself a year in the past.

Sooooo.....the farther away the mirror is the farther back in time we could see??

If there were a giant mirror 670 million miles away you could triangulate its position to pinpoint any place on earth to view an hour into the past??

Yes, but you'd need a more powerful telescope and a way to keep the mirror clean. /ttiforum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

No need to triangulate. Just find a way to make the mirror retroreflective without sacrificing image resolution. Using specular reflection would limit where and when the mirror could be observed.

There is. It's a little closer than 670 million miles, and not a mirror, but Jupiter does in fact reflect a TINY portion of Earth light and Earth radio waves back to us.

Hi

My name is Sophie. I work for a company called Ricochet - an independent production company. I am researching time travel as a potential programme idea and I am keen to put the documentary idea forward to Channel 4.

I am looking for people who know about time travel, perhaps have travelled through time, or even building a time machine. I am also keen to find out more about Time travel conventions. Can you help me with my research in any way?

Many thanks
Sophie

Sophie..

As I said in my IM reply to you..........how about during the production of the program, inviting any time travellers to show up ? As they will see the program in the future, they will see the invite....and who knows.

I'd also look up cases of 'time displacement' on the net. That is...people who have suddenly found themselves in a different time...then everything returned to normal. A bit like the 1970 UK series 'Time Slip' ( gosh...showing my age there ). This was probably many kids at the time introduction to time travel ( along with Dr Who ).

Thanks so much for that!

Are there time travel conventions either here in the UK or anywhere else do you know?

I am also looking to speak to people who strongly believe in time travel and are quite involved with it?

Regards
Sophie

This?

The problem with a time travel documentary is that you will be left with speculation as a final result. This is because the few real time travelers viewing your series will avoid giving complete information in order to protect themselves and time travel itself. The rest of the people will fantasize, predict, and deceive. I know about time travel, but I won't share the details. Google can help with time travel conventions. Just don't believe the people who say that black holes and light speed are the only way.

I know about time travel, but I won't share the details.
What's that supposed to mean? That you claim to know how to travel in time?
If not, then why this mysterious phrasing? Or are you just afraid that if you present your theory that it could get chipped away at?
Don't get me wrong here, I'm just wondering why you made such a suggestive remark.

Mysterious? No worries here. It's like when you admit to any profession. If you meet a doctor or professor, you don't question them to verify that they know what they're doing. You accept it without doubt. I'm not interested in creating other time travelers. If I find someone interesting I will decide whether to let them in on the secret. /ttiforum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Well, it depends on what it is they are doing.
Just because someone is a professor, doesn't mean that whatever he's researching is always correct.
He's just a human being, and thus he can be wrong. Being a professor doesn't make him right.

So you're saying you know how to time travel, but only tell it people you consider "worthy".
That's not very original and if you'd really don't care if people believed you, you wouldn't even say such a suggestive remark. But since you said it you just want some people to hang on your every word, because they think you can time travel and you might tell them if they are just behaving worthy enough.
This way you conveniently diminish the amount of people scrutinizing you for not backing your claim.
Sorry, but I'm not falling for such methods, but I guess saw that coming.

But since you started, let me tell you a secret myself:
I know about teleport, but I won't share the details.
And I'm not lying! I know how to teleport, it's just that I think not everybody should have this ability, because then someone could just kill another person and teleport away to get an alibi.

It's like an old friend said, you can't prove anything over the internet. Ever. Times change. People change. But you still can't prove anything with text alone. And I don't want to. And I don't want anyone to seriously believe me. If people really believed me, they'd investigate. If they looked closely enough they might find something real. Then they'd try to take it for themselves. That would be bad. So please keep disbelieving. I'm just here for fun. I'll leave the serious things for real life. /ttiforum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

So guys..

Can either of you help me or at least point me in the right direction?

Let me tell you a bit more about me.

My name is Sophie. I work for a company called Ricochet - an independent production company.
Ricochet is one of Britain's leading independent television production companies producing high quality factual and entertainment programmes for broadcast by major networks in both the UK and US.
We have a reputation for innovative and award winning programming, and recent successes include the global hit Supernanny, now airing in 47 territories. Other programmes in the Ricochet catalogue include Too Big to Walk, now in production for ABC in America, Its Me or the Dog, The World's Toughest Tribes, Risking it All, No Going Back, How Not to Decorate, Who Rules the Roost, Selling Houses, Born to be Different and Sex Tips for Girls.

With your help I believe we can make an extremely interesting documentary on time travel.

I am looking for people who know about time travel, go to conventions, perhaps have travelled through time, or even building a time machine. Can you help me with my research in any way?

Many thanks
Sophie
