FEMA was just covering their asses by warning about the possibility of the "worst economic disaster in US...".

Fact is, the fault line in question, along with the one under Charleston, SC is overdue. Overdue meaning that there is substantial techtonic pressure on those sections of continental plate. It is visible from space with laser surface measuring and magnetic measuring satellites. The mississippi basin is close... Close like a steel cable ending yield strength.

Sorry about the truth if you live there. Stay alert. get a raft.

FYI, northern cali is due to. hayward, san andreas, all of them together.

I also think it is FEMA trying to look good and responsible after a few "oops" .... but hey thats my opinion I could be wrong...

Yes, New Madrid will create terrible earthquakes in the future. I talked to an insurance guy and they know about it, but what can they do? If they raise rates people will drop them, and if they keep them at current levels the earthquake will wipe them out when St.Louis, Kansas City, Chicago, Cincinnati, Louisville, Indianapolis, and Memphis are gone.

OK, so one thing that people in the future do not understand about us is the problems of our society. They think that our machine world is wonderful. That robots do all the work, we push a big red button on microwave and food comes out. People in the future do no understand that we have to work long hours and go to a supermarket to buy the food. Also, they think we live in these tall towers and we push a button on elevator and we go to the top floor. Again, they do not understand that only a few executives work on the top floor and have the big chair. Most people have crappy jobs like fast food.

Most of those tall towers suffer in the quakes that will soon hit. So many records are destroyed in the future that some debunkers will claim that the tall towers never existed because it is impossible for a person to climb 100 stories and the elevator is a hoax.

These "predictions" of impending doom, especially regarding earthquakes of such a magnitude, are not new.

The reader should take notice that the quote above was published in 1868. The "prediction" of an earthquake of such a magnitude was a topic of discussion 141 years ago.

Thus, by making certain there is a constant stream of dates of doom, eventually, some lucky soul will be able to exclaim " I told you so..." .

As interesting as these 'predictions' may be, these proclaimer's of doom ( whether they be an officer of a government or a time traveler claimant ) warrant the appropriate amount of thought and reaction from the general public as deserved.

I would like to just point out that some of the folks on GLP are convinced that Yellowstone is about to blow as they keep on posting about earthquake activity there (or any activity).

Sometimes it isn't necessarily the event that kills, but the stupidity that preceeds it.

In an earthquake prone region, it doesn't require much in the thinking skills department to realize living in the neighborhood as shown in the photo below, is not a very good idea.

As a side note for the photo: That neighborhood is not on top of a bluff over-looking the water, it is at the base of a man-made lake. The water level is at least 100 feet above the structures... /ttiforum/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
