A couple of minutes had passed since re-entry. All that was left of the time displacement were a quiet electrical hum and the smell of smoke.
Then a deafening silence.

Unbeknownst to Him,

E poi, con l'IBM 5100 nel bagagliaio della sua Corvette del '66, John lasciò finalmente il 1975. Con una decisione ponderata e attentamente calcolata, scelse di fermarsi nel 2000.

Erano passati un paio di minuti dal rientro. Tutto ciò che rimaneva dello spostamento temporale erano un leggero ronzio elettrico e l'odore di fumo.
