after readin the "There is no time" topic, i felt compeled to start this one.
what do all of u think time is?
personaly, i think the definition of time is "a man-made mesurment for determining length between events"
i think that time was discoverd by cavemen when they relized the amount of time in darkness and in daylight from day to day stayed constant.
i got an idea for u.
imagion that time is a computer.
every day the computer is turned on in the morning. as u work on it it creates a log(lets say Go-back for instance) and is shut off at night.
lets say that Go-back saves the status of your computer every 5 min.
now if this was like time, then we would not be able to time travel to somwhere without somehow recording the event we wish to go to.
witch means that traveling into the future is impossible right?

make your own though to capitalize on mine if u wish but give your definition of time.

We can create a Go-back log program for our use, but we may be part of a larger Go-back log program created by someone else. We may merely exist on one of those Go-back log files. If so, then we may be able to travel forwards or backwards to other Go-back log files.

sure, time is just a measurement tool invented by man, but only in one respect. In another respect, time can be described as the rate at which interaction occurs in the environment at the most fundamental level.

Now, if you look at it this way, you should begin to think this: "if time is merely the rate of interaction with the environment, then I should still be able to alter it, simply by changing my sampling rate in relation to my environment!"

Now you have a fundamental basis for a theory that, when time dilation (relative differences in the sampling rate of the environment), Plancks constant, and the speed of light are taken into consideration, has a remarkable potential for developement into something greater - even as great as the direct manipulation of that "fake" quantity time, stemming forth time travel.

Look deeper into this mystery. Just by taking a few things into consideration, you should be able to see that hey, maybe there's something to this whole time thing, and trying to manipulate it, after all!

A few examples: The Planck length. below this length there is no interaction with the environment, as we know it! That is one basis for quanta, those individual packets of energy. Maybe this is the fundamental length were interaction occurs? increasing or decreasing your interaction with particles at this length should do something right?

the special theory of relativity: This should put an end to those "oh there's no point in trying to manipulate time, for it just doesn't exist" thoughts. It deals directly with the dilation of time! the speed of light being a constant is its basis.

Now if you understand those few things, as most of you do, that in itself should put an end to that "no point in trying to manipulate something that doesn't exist" attitude.

VERTIGO:

"personaly, i think the definition of time is "a man-made mesurment for determining length between events"
i think that time was discoverd by cavemen when they relized the amount of time in darkness and in daylight from day to day stayed constant."

What did you read that lead you to these conclusions?
Your conclusions are most accurate, but not complete.
