Why ??? or is it what ???

Reading the posts day and day out, pondering what everyone writes, it hit me recently....

What exactly does each one of us ( individually ) want of a time traveler ?

My reason for discovering a time traveler may be different than everyone else...so it would be interesting to know what EACH one of us wants from a "REAL" time traveler...

If you did have the opportunity to interact, personally, with a traveler in time...what would such an interaction do for you ?

For me to actually meet up with a "REAL" time traveler would satisfy several wants "I" have...
1. That time travel CAN be done
2. There is a future
3. That specific principles of creation may be validated by the mere arrival of the time traveler
4. Conversation beyond the norm.

These are some of my basic reasons of wants...what are yours ?

If meeting a real time traveler for the sake of argument lets call him "Juan Titor"

If I did have the opportunity to interact, personally,
with a traveler in time...what would such an interaction do for me ?

For me to actually meet up with a "REAL" time traveler would satisfy several wants "I" have...

1. Proof of Real time Travel
2. Evidence Proof of Creationism or Evolution to put the oldest argument known to rest.
3. I would pass on knowing my own future, but would like to know about the future of the human race
in the next 10 generations and then 5,0000 years
4. Information as to how the Mayan, Aztec Flourished and declined
5. Ask him waht would of happned if the inventors/implementors of the atomic bomb and
bio-weapons were to be eliminated...and of course what would of happned if we had eliminated
some of the world's leaders of the past responsible for killing millions of people
6. Bring a totally organic and pure array of fruits and vegetables to taste the difference
7. Bring a piece of T-REX steak to BBQ I bet they would taste amazing!
8. Bring the 1st egg or the first chicken to put that question to rest as well /ttiforum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

So many possibilities so little time ....

If I had the opportunity to interact with a time traveler I guess my biggest want would be, Why is s/he here? But OvLrdLegion's question brings up a few little insights of my own i would like to make:
How would you identify a time traveler? I see a few possible ways:
1. You see, or catch them, jumping into our time line.
2. They look so out of place they must be from anothor time. (very unlikely)
3. They have reveled themself to you and have proven that they are a "REAL" time traveler. (most likely in my opinion)

There may be many many more ways but i think these are the best chances to come across a TTer.
If I by some chance come across #3. I would have to assume they reveled themself to me for a reason, one of those reasons may be that i'am part of his mission back in time, hence answering my origional question.

But of course this is all just my humble opinion........ thanks for reading!

"What exactly does each one of us ( individually ) want of a time traveler ? "

communication.

I would like to understand how time travel works. The physics behind it.
what takes place during a trip. How the individual handles it.
All of the details of what he sees and hears and experiences would be fascinating
to hear first hand.

I would love to sit and listen to a REAL time traveler talk about his travels
through time. What its like to be a traveler. Get to know him on a personal
level to understand more of where he came from and what his world is like.
To me it would open up a fascinating communication where the questions and
curiosities would probably never end.

You would actually be meeting and talking with someone from another world.
With technology that few know about and even fewer understand.

That alone would be fascinating and unforgettable.
But only if you knew for sure... otherwise you always have doubts.
I would like to meet one..just one...where I knew for absolute sure he was real.

OvrLrd,

What exactly does each one of us ( individually ) want of a time traveler ?

Communication in honest, clear and specific terms. If a time traveler, a real one, comes on to a discussion forum I expect discussion. So far, every would-be time traveler that has ever confronted us here and elsewhere has indicated that he was aware, beforehand, of the nature of what our questions would be. But in each case they have chosen to be cute, vague and wholly non-communicative with respect to any core issues. I don't think that there are all that many people who care what their favorite food is, what their favorite color is or how it "feels" to time travel and I know that each of those would-be time travelers have the read old threads and discovered that those are not important questions. They also know that the standard Titorism "I don't care if you believe me" doesn't float many boats.

If they choose to post there's a reason. Part of that reason is to seek out general belief - assuming that they are the real deal - because each of them has had their particular flavor of doom, gloom and the USA is the seat of all evil that is, was and will ever be. To that extend, we get it. We hear the message: in the future all conservatives are killed, murdered or in some other form expunged from the Earth by smart nuclear weapons that only kill the bad guys and leave the goods guys alone (which makes one wonder why half of the population dies in Titor's War leaving only the happy, happy All-One-Mind good guys. How can a near majority of the world be the definitive bad guys?). That's the TT's opinion of us. But what we don't get are facts that clearly support the assertion, "I am a time traveler".

Real communication is what I want of a time traveler.

One thing that I have noticed with respect to time travel, and we are continually traveling in time from the present to the future, is the unexpected. The is always something that seems to defy our attempts at a linear extrapolation. We keep getting blindsided by the unknown and unanticipated.

The traveler from the future is no longer really a part of our society or culture. So we must expect something different. With a posting such as BruceXXXX, we read only a message in contemporary idiom which sounds quite like a bored college student. What I want to see is that little something that we lack the ability to imagine .

This may be the wrong thing to say on this board (perhaps only a handful might get where i am going) and might seem a little out of character;

But truly, It may be that we have little to learn from the time traveler, thats not already accessible to us in this moment in time. There are things people can teach us here that even 1O,000's of years from, now a timetraveler and any organisation they belong too, will still likely be ignorant of.

My interest in TT is merely to aid in testing for the reality and truth behind the construct/purpose of the universe. After all this was the whole point regarding 'time' in the first place, was it not?

Kind regards,
Olly

Hi OvLrd,

You already know my postions on this, so my reply is more for those who might not.

I do not want anything from a time traveler, and I am not on this forum awaiting or hoping to speak to one. As I have stated before, my knowledge of science and the extensions of science that I am working on tells me that time travel in the "romantic" notion that most people think of (i.e. a person being able to travel through time without any change to their physical structure) is not and will not be possible. In fact, OvLrd recently stated something very similar in his "The Key of Time" thread. This belief of mine is precisely why I demand solid, scientific evidence of anyone who claims to be a time traveler.

Rather, I am here to talk about the science and understanding of TIME, and how a better understanding of what "constitutes" Time will further our understanding of our place as humans in our universe.

I think that it is these differing intentions from people that elevate this forum above all the others. And is also why more people here refuse to be hoodwinked by would be 'time travellers'. There is not so much the desperation for fictional exotic accounts, but rather the principles and implications of the implied 'truth' behind the reality of 'time' and 'time travel'.

An excellent point, Olly. And perhaps that also goes for pointless riddles, when we have some really important questions to peruse and perhaps learn from, viz:

What is the nature of consciousness?

What is the nature of physical reality?

What's happening to our planet? :D

That said, I might add, time is a measure of our life and normal consciousness. It is central to our conception of ourselves.

Olly,

But truly, It may be that we have little to learn from the time traveler

That's an excellent point especially given the standard scenario posed by our would-be time travelers. They always point out that they come from some "parallel" nearly the same, but still different, Earth twin.

Other than giving us some specifics on how s/he accomplished the task, i.e. the science behind the gadget, which would be highly instructive, their "history lessons" are generally irrelevent. What happens on their world is unrelated to what will happen on this world. We might learn some general history lessons from his/her story but we have sufficient history lessons from our world to be able to draw our own inferences. Within the context of how they have all phrased the scenarios underlying their stories (Many Worlds, alternate universes) they know nothing more about our future than we know about our future and they have no more ability to discover that future beforehand than we have. According to their stories all that they would be discovering is the history of yet another alternate universe - not ours. The time travel aspect of the story isn't necessary to accomplish their task of giving us doom and gloom political lessons.

But the science behind time travel is their downfall. It was even Titor's downfall. He knew how to Google and find the references. He'd read some pop-sci books on the subject written by physicists. Bur he didn't understand what those references were stating.

For instance he refered us to look at a typical Penrose diagram to see how travel via a black hole's wormhole leads to alternate universes.

We remember that his task was to go to an alternate universe that was very similar to his so that he could obtain the IMB 5100/5110. And we remember his "divergence" theory.

But here's the problem. A Penrose diagram does, in fact, show pathways to alternate universes. But they also indicate pathways to the same universe and allow travel to different places and times within that universe. Its unnecessary to resort to going to another universe if what you want is to obtain some object or information from within your universe. That's part of what I've termed Titor's "silly science".

Caveat: this does not mean that we can actually travel through a wormhole at all. Our current state of the science indicates that this is a theoretical solution that only works in a sterile universe that contains just the black hole and no other matter or energy. In short, the theory only allows black hole time travel in an idealized laboratory setting.

We might, someday, find complete solutions that apply to a real universe that has stars, planets, dust, photons and black holes that formed after the Big Bang.
