Why I now I think the Titor story is true:

Temporal Novice
Now this guy was supposed to be from the future right? How old is supposed to be right now? Not very old I bet. Well I think I figured something out, he read about the civil war in Pravda. If Russia really does nuke us in 2015 then there will be no records left in the USA. That means if someone wanted to find out about America today, they would have to use articles from Pravda, and other foreign newspapers and information sources.

Look what I was presented today:
"Russian intelligence says constitutional crisis in the USA takes deadly turn:

Russian Intelligence Analysts are reporting that the ongoing constitutional crisis that has erupted in the United States has taken a decidedly deadly turn as counter-coup forces attempting to block access to the American capitol engaged in a brief gun battle with US Army Special Forces leaving at least 3 dead.

Of this currently unfolding event we can read as reported by England’s Times Online News Service in their article titled "US Capitol Sealed Off After Gunshots Heard," and which says:

"Police sealed off part of Capitol Hill today after reports that gunshots had been heard in the garage of a House of Representatives office building. The shots were heard in the garage level of the Rayburn Building, which houses offices of members of the US House of Representatives. Bill Pickle, the Senate Sergeant at Arms, told Reuters: "We have been told by staff of shots fired and the smell of smoke in the lobby of the Rayburn House building ."

Russian Intelligence reports further state that the United States Army has activated for this event their 4th Psychological Operations Group / Task Organization and which was the US military unit that coordinated the mis/disinformation campaign during the events of September 11, 2001 to such great effect...."

Now this is obviously propaganda, but doesn't it sound like what Titor was talking about? What if he was reading nutty things in Pravda? By the sounds of this, the world is five days from ending. How would you know looking back, if you weren't very old at the time, that this is wasn't what really happened? You wouldn't. Titor read Pravda.

That's actually very interesting. Still, I don't beleive Titor. If you were from the future you'd be more specific about things to really impress your point on people.

Now if Titor said: "OMG!! BTW: The Twin-Towers get attacked!!" I'd probably be more convinced.
Sorry, but Titor is a h0ax.

Well, I must say it is an audacious claim to make that time travel is possible, but we already know it is possible to travel to the future. Einstein proved this a long time ago (think twins paradox.) The only problem is that we can't get back, as of yet.

In addition, I think he is right about the Civil War, but I think it is also possible that someone could have looked at current events at the time Titor posted, and determined politics was so bitterly divided that a civil war is likely. The whole future of our nation depends upon several things:

1. How the next elections go, if Democrats lose they will claim the elections were stolen, and this will push their anger over the line.

2. How Warren Jeffs is captured. If he is killed in a violent, Waco/Ruby Ridge like standoff, there is a chance that other Republicans will abandon the President, and will feel betrayed. This will cause other standoffs as predicted in the scenario.

3. Random incidents of violence, involving people who are ultra-conservative. This is now possible because of a recent Supreme Court decision that allows Police to enter a home unannounced. This will result eventually in incidents of violence, and this will make ultra-conservatives feel abandoned as well. This could also start the Civil War.

There are many other factors that are eerily similar to Titor's story, but we must remember he was from an "alternate universe" so things may not unfold as they would in that universe.

originalpckelly,

Now this is obviously propaganda, but doesn't it sound like what Titor was talking about? What if he was reading nutty things in Pravda? By the sounds of this, the world is five days from ending. How would you know looking back, if you weren't very old at the time, that this is wasn't what really happened? You wouldn't. Titor read Pravda

Sure, it sounds something like what TTO/Titor was talking about. Then again, any talk by anyone about civil war, government conspiracies or abuse of power sounds "something like what Titor was talking about" irrespective of the source or the credibility of the information itself.

Titor might have read Pravda - it is and was available online. I read it occassionally.

He absolutely did read the Internet. There were and still are dozens of blogs and websites with fringe "theories" about civil war. He didn't mention a single "issue" that wasn't being talked about on several websites at the time that he was posting.

I've mentioned this one a dozen times but I'll mention it again:

Take his "prediction" about what Ginger/It was going to be.

At the time that he mentioned Ginger/It there was a "buzz" on many blogs that it was based on reverse engineered alien technology and what it really was was "hush-hush top secret" known only to the inventor(s) and the government. This is why the subject was mentioned in the first place by Pamela (his post was in response to a question about Ginger/It by her).

The truth is that there was no secret and that it was in the best interest of Dean Kamen (co-inventor) to let the buzz ride. It was good pre-release publicity.

Titor posted this in 2001. Kamen et al was issued Patent 5,971,091 on 26-OCT-1999 as a continuation of a series of patents for the device that was first filed in 1993. I did the patent search a couple of days after Titor made the post. The patent was available online to anyone who cared to do the search. The search criteria was "Kamen, Dean" because it was well known who the inventor was.

This was an example of Titor posting about something that was already a hot Internet "alien technology /government conspiracy" topic.
