Why 2000? Someone please explain.

Hello. Could someone please explain to me why John Titor traveled to 2000 when he could have just went back to the 70's and got the computer he needed? Doesn't that make more sense?
 
You're correct... he went back to '76 (I believe) and then hopped forward to 2000... upon returning, he went back to '76, and hopped forward to 2036 again. /ttiforum/images/graemlins/smile.gif
