what if time is part of a machine

What if time is part of a machine? Time is something that always go. What if what we know as the solar system is a part of this "machine"? Maybe because time is always going at a steady rate and why it cant be stopped, is because it is part of a machine? It sure sounds logical to me. What do you think?

Chicken and egg. What 'time' is the machine itself running in ?

It is similar to arguments about God. If everything requires a creator....then who created God ?

Do some research on Dr. Julian Barbour. He's not a professor because he's always worked outside academia but he does have some interesting, though admittedly controversial, ideas about time vs.configuration space. His proposal is that time, as such, doesn't exist. "Time" in his view is nothing more than changes in the configuration (relative location) of objects in 3D space.

It's up to you to consider the validity of his ideas.

He'd be right.....as time is not a 'thing'. It is a process involving things. If everything suddenly froze in the same place, time would stop. So it's quite clear that time is the process of change.

As for time speeding up or slowing down.....relative time ( that is, time relative to an external observer ) can. But it makes no sense to speak of one's own 'absolute' time speeding up or slowing down. If one's own time slowed down, the speed of light might be thought to slow down too.....but in fact it would not. As one second is the time in which light travels 186,000 miles, light would still travel the same distance, but you would not notice that one second was now 'longer'....as by definition one second is the time light takes to travel 186,000 miles.

So there is no such thing as a 'speed of time'. The whole universe could slow down by a factor of 1000 and nobody would notice.

interesting, it seems me and this scientist have the same concept of what time can be.

I have a interesting idea that can add credibility to this theory. I know that DNA degrades in time and I think it's a part of what makes us age.

What if something in space is making the DNA degrade over time? What if lets say, the gravity is making our DNA degrade? If we can find out if the DNA is degrading because of something happening around or with the planets we can conclude that planets and objects in space are at least a part of time.

I think it's important to ask small questions like the above and not overfocus on all the big ones.
