What do you think the future will be like?

So Chronohistorian has shared his story on what the future will be like. Now I want to know what everyone else thinks that the future will be like.

So my question is...
If you could travel into the future...
What do you think that the future will be like?

the future...

you know what the future is.. its all around u already. You can see it, taste it, feel it, smell it, and hear it.

Its the inevitable, its the matrix. =P

What kind of time frame are we talking about here 20 years? 500? HG Wells - 800,000?

Humans have only lived on this planet for something like 65,000 years - amazingly we have used up nearly all the resources which have made our advances in technology possible - making it unlikely that a future race on this planet will reach our level. Kinda sad, no?

I would like to envision a future of clean air and hovering cars, but it will take alot more than technology to achieve a Utopia. Peace and equality for all is the best path to take, but unfortunately, our history has a surprising lack of ability on this front!

It will take something like discovering life on another planet, and the realisation that we all the same species in a universe of opportunity before we can make peace with ourselves.

At the moment I only see an inevitable future of suffering... /ttiforum/images/graemlins/frown.gif

You can set the time frame, but you have to say if you think it will happen in 20,500,or 800,000 years or whatever time you choose. Just say it or the approximate time.

a cure for everything.

Or as long as its a safe place to live.

Or as long as everyone get to live there dream.

And i get to become a club dj one day.

Next.

Don't worry. you won't have sea shells to wipe your ass. We use toilets that send water up your bum to clean it then warm air to dry it.

We have vaccination for almost all diseases in the future.

There is still a bit of crime but your unlikely to be murdered because they will be tortured if they are caught.

What if it's a person's dream to be ruler of the world?

In the Christian bible, I think J.C. talks about the ruler of the world as a prince and the Evil One.
I think that is what he thinks the future will be like. If it is that person's dream then maybe he is...

Well, you don't have to believe me. This is just what I found in reading 6 different versions of the part that talks about it.

Sorry to get religious in the forum, but the Christian bible has some predictions of the future as well.

The future will prove that chronohistoFullOfShit was pulling our legs.
I do think that it will be the end of ordinary time within the next 15 - 20 years and our view of time will be changed drastically. Not to say that we will be travelling back in time looking for a pc but our understanding of time and how it ties into the universe will be much different (at least I hope that's true as we would all greatly benefit from it).

All I can say to that is Brilliant!

I like that thought and hope that it is true too.

near future:
it will stay a world with differences,
difference about religions, social culture, freedom money and politics
views .. why it should change?

ppls stayed the same from century, (that old primitive instinct) look what happens
in our 21 century , we are back into religion and power conflicts, TV doesn't bring
to ppls education but cheap entertainment and advertising or sad news.

I believe only elite, such as scientific, researchers, intellectuals,
film director, artists, philosophers, will keep evolved as a micro-society (like always did)

Regarding our everyday life, first the biometrics will be involved
everywhere. Our freedom rights will be took over bite by bite (for
security purpose) yea right.. The big corporations are wining on us
everyday more and more.

so unless a manifest confrontation with other advanced intellect species (if any around)
who can bring us serious Keys, such as wisdom,
consciousness, about how to protect our own environment more
efficiently and without fail, or who have been across where we are and
show us that peace and respect will be the only way too keep our
travel safe, and how to use our undiscovered resource, we will still be stationary in our human
collective conscience evolution for a while.

don't get me wrong Guy.D, I believe into civilization and human being, I
always said that were are all child of the stars.. (which is now
starting to be demonstrate) but our process is slow.

what else,

computer in apparel, brain to brain
communication amplifier, dream machines (recording and simulation),
simultaneous electronic votes for democracy, time data travel, helium 3 space fuel,
hydrogen fusion for energy resource, auto computer & radar pilot with direction
tracer for electromagnetic propulsion. virtual interactivity
entertainment TV, computer will be tomorrow TV. life expectation
control, genetic cure via adn...

faraway future:

house; no door no wall no roof, magnetic fields only.
no water wasting for bathroom, only dry cleaning for body (which will
be more efficient for killing all sort of bacteria)

antigravity movement and displacement control by our brain

telepathy communication

transportation by brain focus

...

a temporel

Really? Johan Cruyff has his own chapter in the bible?

I hope that someday cryogenics will be affordable and perhaps a bit more advanced. I'd have myself frozen (or rather cooled down, without freezing) in a heartbeat. I want to know what will happen in the future... I want to live the future. Being dead seems like no fun to me.

Roel

Death is so intriguing? Where do we go? Where will we end up? What will become of our very souls? Man seek these answers and will never find a definite answer.

My guess is the future will be a cold cold world of suffering and extinction, not as if I'm a pessimist or anything. I particularly liked the ending of A.I

I agree, death is intriguing, but I repeat: Being dead seems like no fun to me. I don't believe there's an afterlife of any kind. I don't really believe in the concept of a soul either. I think you are right when you're saying that we will never find a definite answer to the question what will happen when we're dead, for the simple reason that dead people generally have great trouble expressing themselves /ttiforum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Mmmh, perhaps you're right, but I'd still like to be there to witness it. I'm too curious to die /ttiforum/images/graemlins/smile.gif So I guess I'll go with cryogenics if I can afford it and if it's reliable by the time I'm about to die.

Perhaps I should raise a "Help Roel get Cryogenics fund"

Well, that's from an atheist point of view. Mine is different, but I prefer not to say anything lest we come to some disagreements.*flashbacks*

Cryogenics sounds fun. But what happens if the world gets wiped out and your left in the cryogenic cell? The bad thing is, you need a mighty lot of money to do that.

Has anyone really done it?

I expect.....

Extended life expectancy - maybe adding 10-20 years over the next 60 or so
advances in computing - AI is a few years away - but it will come.
Increased understanding in many areas of science
Political instability - West vs the rest of the world
Wars over religion
dinishing oil reserves will force alternate research

The growth of the internet will lead to increased knowledge sharing

Pretty much it - and nicely vague /ttiforum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

one news I heard, was about that old French couple, they asked to their son to be
cryogenics and to look after the system (1 year ago)
(some People have gotten very close to absolute zero but it never will be
reached)
recently the French government came and asked the son to unplug his parents (from the basement where the system is) the gov said it was against the law...
See, you better check out where you may go for it. it seem that at some
places you can not even be free after your death.
