What are your hobbies?

Hello!

Guys, since this forum has people from at least three continents (North and South America, Europe) we sure have a diverse environment here.

I was wondering, what are your hobbies? What are the nice things you like to do in your part of the planet?

I'll start: I like to exercise. Soccer is a must. I also like fighting sports such as Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. BJJ is the one I've been spending most of my time lately, love it.

How about yourself?

I also play football for exercise, not that I'm any good. I've recently started gardening, and it's a very untidy affair right now. I'm a keen motorcyclist. I'm not currently on the road for various reasons, but my financial situation has improved slightly so hopefully I'll be out soon. I enjoy travelling too, but circumstances are holding me in place for now.

Good topic! I'm looking forward to replies from other members

Research time travel. :p

But really, I'm big on "geek culture". Video games, anime, that sort of thing. I'm also starting to get into minimalism/one-bagging/etc.

I'm from rural Australia where the cook's friends with the nurse is friends with the postman. Having moved to the city where the 14-year-old punks grow to be the 40-year-old punks, I've grown bored & have adopted many contradicting lifestyles. We live so long as lo live five lifes in a lifetime now, marry five times for e.g. So why not? One could call me a hypocrite if I were to tell them I smoke, associate with JWs, associate with political types, am a mother & am polyamorous, but I find each lifestyle to be strengthened by the rest no matter if contradicting. Problems or victories found to one lifestyle are always telltale by the failure or progress of the others. My advice is to balance many different lifestyles/hobbies, not let them collide, & not take any too seriously to perfect on them all. One hobby is not a very well taken care of hobby if you ask me. I also wonder many lifestyles increases the identity causing one to live longer & suffer less at the expense of any particular one. We'll also adopt other like worthwhile lifestyles, like becoming creationist say :)

I just notice your hobbies just seem very similar is all. Are they all different hobbies or just different extensions of one not-taken-care-of hobby, ironically being "keeping fit"?

Walking, all things PC since I was 10, time travel claims research, phone games (thinking ones like Words with Friends), growing things like tomatoes, peppers, orchids, raising cats and tropical fish, photography (amateur), writing, helping my kids go-kart, swim, dance (I'm a mom-taxi), music, and I play piano.

You're right. I'm at a moment in my life where I'm increasingly having less and less time for myself over the past couple of years. My first daughter will be born in 2 months, and something (and everyone else actually) tells me that when that happens, I'll have just zero time for myself.BJJ is something I love doing, and it has way more meaning than just contributing to fitness. Hitting the gym is a social experience. I interact with others. It's a very relaxing experience. After a long day of work, going there and talking to our Sensei and my friends, fooling around and laughing, all that eases off a stressful day. Then class starts. This is undeniably a fitness activity of course. But if you have any experience with grappling, you'll understand the "chess" aspect of it. This is an extremely strategic sport. And if you're into it as I am, every single day you learn something new. All that in the most friendly environment. I couldn't praise BJJ enough.

So yeah, basically I'm a one-hobby-man right now. However, if I had the proper resources (money and time basically) these are the activities I'd like to do eventually:

  • Learning how to fly a drone. Using it to take pictures and other experiments. Using it to see the city from a different angle;

  • Fly model remote-controlled aircraft such as planes and helicopters;

  • Purchase a killer telescope and use to study some astronomy (this one I really want to do. By the way, anybody here has this hobby that could help me out with some tips?);

  • Buy a killer microscope and study inorganic and organic materials;

  • Traveling around could be considered a hobby? I would like to visit Tibet one day;

  • Join a gun club;

  • Learn how to ride a motorcycle and own one.

  • ...

I'll stop here before I start sounding too frustrated :D

HelloI highly encourage you to get yourself a telescope & mini drone, & to find societies that like these same hobbies. I can tell you i wouldn't be the broadminded mother i am if i didn't take time off for other things. I do think your hobby is a worthy one, but to truly do it justice you may need to share yourself around a bit. Involving myself with political types, time-travellers, people from certain congregations, other mothers, i that they're not much elsec have little other direction in life & seem old & depressed. They may love what they do, but i don't think they love it to the hight to which they can & which they should. You see pollys with their hair falling out, churchys sweeping demons off ceilings, mothers saying they feel oppressed, when all have just taken one thing a little too seriously. I consider being a parent to be a hobby :) . Congrats :) .Also, you're using this forum so i'd consider that another. You probably look at the night sky & watch space doccos am i right? And seeing as you're interested in flying drones & stuff i'm sure maybe you play aviation games? I promise everything you do will improve if you've an everything you do.

I've a motto "Never let your garden grow into your clothesline area", & i'm going use how people treat their backyards as an example of why people are happier wearing different hats in life. Some people you'll see will tear up the hedges, let the kids mess up the whole yard & will mutter around the lawn as they mow & pick up things that the whole place should be cemented. Another man has a grapevine in the corner, a rockgarden area for the kids, clothesline area out of site, an adults hungy area & man den/garage. You see him out rain or shine weeding, moving guinea pig hutches, & waking up joyful to his family each day and to watch the sunrise & prop up a stake or too.

I wonder one cannot see the beauty of a yard or life what has but few points to it & is cluttered.

I'm what is called polyamorous meaning i have 3 separate relationships. Years ago i'd date one man, we'd break up, & i'd be left to wonder what was Wrong with me, & telling myself i could do better next time. Then, i'd find myself another man to, we'd break up & i'd be left wondering what's wrong with me again. I'll do better next time, i told myself. Later i found that to have 3 partners who i wouldn't see as often, it would turn out i'd love them all differently & form bonds stronger than those i'd had in the past. To have one partner, i have never been as comfortable as to have 3. I keep them each apart, i keep my politics & religion apart, i keep my timetravel & childrearing apart & my life is the most beautiful thing you could set eyes upon.

Well... Thanks for sharing that I guess?

Hehe. I don't feel like your sharing anything personal PrecursorHwy. It's like a church sermon. Your lifestyle sounds hard to me, keeping your personal lives separate from each other.

I recently became a parent myself, and its the most amazing and intimidating experience. I worry constantly that I'm going to mess it up, but she's starting to properly converse, and watching her learn new things actually blows my mind.

It's actually quite refreshing :) .
