what about siting still?

what if you could sit still have have everything move around you at the speed of light?
are you moving or are they? whats the differnts? no G-forces, thats about it. but it would i guess have to be an actual matter not a wave. but i guess it's just dumb it was somthing i was thinking about last night.

That's the whole point of Eintein's Equivalence Principle. Basically there is no experimental method of differentiating acceleration from gravitaional pull. The "weight" you would feel in a moving space-ship is equivalent to the weight you would feel from gravity. There is no known way of saying it's one thing or the other. As General Relativity is based upon this assumption, light-speed may be able to be surpassed if it's found out to be a false premise. Who knows what could happen then?

Excellent distinction and background science, Keeb:

As General Relativity is based upon this assumption, light-speed may be able to be surpassed if it's found out to be a false premise. Who knows what could happen then?
Yes, there are people thinking about what is termed "weak equivalency". For a few names of such people, Hal Puthoff and Michael Ibison are both investigating this track. And I believe the "frame drag" experiments on a recently launched NASA probe were intended to help solidify the "strong equivalency" claim of GR. But I have not heard anything from these experiments, as yet. Have you?

No, I have not heard anything yet. Gravity probe B was just launched recently. I imagine it will be a while before any data is released.

It would be awesome if that could happen, I can't really fathom it.

Everyone before said that even if time travel was possible you'd have to be moving pretty darn fast to accomplish it. But although sitting still seems like the simplest, and most amazing one, I just can't see it.
