To the residents of this forum:
Please stop giving this John Titor story so much attention! Please get a grip on reality, why am I pleading this to you? Because in my opinion there are SOME genuine supernatural phenomena in this world. (A very small percent of UFO encounters and Near Death Experiences for instance.) but we'll never be able to filter the good from the bad if people keep jumping over every dubious story and rumor which crops up on the internet. Don't believe everything you read and always stay rational otherwise the line between the world of the supernatural and stark raving madness will never be seperated and thus people who try to investigate the authentic stuff will continue to get ridiculed and scorned by the academic community from all sides.
Let's take Occams Razor into consideration here. The simplest of two competing hypotheses is often the correct one, so we have:
1.) John Titor was a worldline traveller from the year 2036 sent to secure a computer from 1975, along the way he tries to reach out to the world via paranormal internet forums.
2.) John Titor was a group of bored college students who stay up to date with politics / news, are good at making predictions, and are likely studying behavioral psychology.
It doesn't take a genius, folks...
It doesn't surprise me that so many people were so ready to surrender themselves to the John Titor story and begin digging bunkers in their backyard. This is because our lives are often very unexciting and boring, and our souls crave deliverance from this. But you don't need hoaxes like Titor to make your life interesting, why don't you go outside and do something important or meaningful instead of clinging to a story?
The titor story is downright embaressing at times. Think for a minute about the person(s) responsible for this hoax, he/she likely browses this very forum and shakes his/her head in sadness at the madness which continues even after 3 1/2 years. It's actually become a silly movie and a radio play, and all someone had to do was craft some elaborate posts on some internet forums. What a precident this sets for any old yahoo seeking attention.
And what about the "Death of John Titor" thread?? Here we have someone claiming to be 'Sam Rodriguez' saying he's the one who fabricated the whole story. This means that either the madness has spread so far that there are actually people creating hoaxes about being the hoaxer, or that the Real John Shady actually revealed himself as the hoaxer and everyone, so caught up in the fantasy, simply ignored him instead of giving it credence.
Think about it this way, the more you commit yourself to the Titor story (And it's understandable if you do because it was a very convincing story.) the harder you're gonna fall when it turns out the thing was a hoax, you are going to feel very stupid. There's gonna be a massive sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach, and it will likely turn you to alcoholism. You can avoid this early on by grounding yourself in some healthy british skepticism.
I admit, he made some good predictions. And there's been no absolute proof he was a fraud, so we may all still get nuked in 2015. I mean you never know, however I'm gonna ask something of the people on this forum:
If by January 1st, 2006, there is still no sign of an impeding civil war in our country, or civil unrest, then please discontinue the Titor story... Do it for the sake of good science, when the story starts to smell seriously like fraud. Don't cling to it just because you wanna believe. It paints a bad picture on the rest of us.
