Many years ago I read a story about a man who appeared suddenly on a sidewalk in downtown New York City, in front of many witnesses. He looked around wildly, panicked, ran into heavy traffic (this was in "modern" times, date unknown) and was struck and killed. The weird part comes when an attempt was made to identify him. His clothes were of a style, weave, and material from more than a hundred years ago. Coins in his pocket and his hairstyle were likewise. He was never matched to any missing person. I believe I read this in Ripleys' "Believe It Or Not" although it could have come from one of Charles Forts' books. Maybe readers of Fate Magazine have run across it. If true, perhaps this is an example of an intentional OR a natural (?)event. If other similar events were unearthed, well, draw your own conclusions. If this sounds far-out, be advised that I.B.M. has a internet site devoted to their (ongoing)research on a teleportation machine. Not very different from time travel, just the destination. Beam me up,Scotty! (Or sideways!)
