People commonly have enough information to believe that if they could travel faster than light they would be time travellers. Lets look at that statement. If one were to travel faster than light you have to be going from point A to point B. If point B is 5 feet in front of you and you travel that distance at twice the speed of light, you would only get there really fast. However, you would not have travelled in time any faster than the someone who happens to be standing on point B or anywhere on Earth.
Let's think about this: If you happen to be able to travel from point A to point B at 2x the speed of light and you were able to look at point A just as you Arrived at point B, you would see the light that made yourself visible still emanating from point A. I must stress that this would be just the light that made you visible, not yourself! No Back to The Future here.
Here is my biggest concern about Einstein's Theory of Relativity, Time, and light particles...
Time is a human creation. We just happened to find that quartz oscillates at a rate that helps us keep human time. Imagine a craft surfing light particles, travelling at or near the speed of light... You are inside the craft wearing a quartz watch. Your watch is counting seconds at the same rate it was when you were travelling at 90 miles a second here on earth. Who is to say that our universe is not travelling through its dimension at light speed and we are all protected by the ignorance of not being capable of knowing. /ttiforum/images/graemlins/smile.gif The fact about the quartz watch is that if it is travelling at the speed of light, and if we could watch the face at our own speed, the watch would show time slower than a clock not travelling at the speed of light. The only reason this is true is that the light we are recieving from the watch is slow in reaching us. It would take an awesome lens or device to see the watch anyway, since in just seconds it would be millions of miles away. ( I believe that light particles take a fairly straight path from the object that emitted it and I do believe that their path is distorted by objects having mass just as Einstein Said.)
There are alot of problems with time travel theories. I believe that if time travel is possible the only people to figure it out will be people who start from scratch.
I remain open minded.
