Time line change? or no effect.....

There's a lot of theories regarding travelling back in time and changing history (grandfather paradox etc) and I wondered what the opinion is on here so if (hypothetically of course I have no means of doing so)..... I went back in time and gave myself the winning Euromillions lottery numbers for last night would I.......

A. Return to the present and find myself rich with no memory of winning?

B. Return to the present and find myself rich and remember winning?

C. Return to the present and find I hadn't won because I didn't win originally and I can't change the past?

D. Start another time line in an alternate universe where I did win.... but return to this timeline and not win?

E. Or........ (your views)

Please note, I am not obsessed with the lottery (although I did post the entropy thread regarding lottery numbers) I just used this as the easiest example to illustrate what I'm asking.....

My current thoughts on the subject are it will be the first part of D..... if you have influenced things to change they will change BUT you will be stuck on that stream and will not be able to return to your original future. You will have pinched out the loop where you went back , that no longer exists for you. But don't forget, if you are say, 50 years old when you go back into your own past, you will still be 50, and there will be an ANOTHER earlier version of you . You might possibly pinch the travelling you out too and cease to exist, so it's best if you just convey the information to the earlier you and let him be his own agent.
Of course you will have changed things for a lot of other people directly and indirectly too. Is this helping?

I read your post again and realised you are only popping back a day or two. But, the same thing still applies. There will be two of you, and once you make a change you might pinch the travelling you out of existence.

Thanks for your thoughts Vodkafan..... I'm just wondering..................... that's all and I could either travel just a day or so with a Time machine if ever invented or if a time slip happened maybe 20 or 30 years.... but in that case I would have find a post box and post it to a relevant address of mine of the era I am in.... but use stamps of the right age........ so do I carry around several letters to myself with vintage stamps on just in case I ever time-slip;)

And incidentally if a time machine is ever invented that works (it would probably only be able to transport you to when the machine was switched on as the machine would be so large it couldn't travel itself) would gambling become extinct?

Just realised I am giving this way too much thought:confused:

No, not at all spectrum, I love thinking about this stuff! It does tie you up in knots. In theory I guess you could go back and return (if your machine/method allows this) as long as you don't change anything...that would be difficult.
The time slip idea has got more popular .
As I see it the problems of time slips are:
1. Not knowing in advance when or where it will occur around you
2 No control over what time in the past you will end up in- 100 years or 36 hours?
3 Not knowing how long the visit will be
4 Can you interact when you are there ?
5 What if the time slip is also a slip in space? So you end up in say Berlin instead of your home locality? (Just throwing this in as a possibility)

I like your idea of carrying information in envelopes around with you and a bunch of different stamps. I guess it would be smart to have the same info addressed to yourself at every address you had lived at in the past. If the MWI is correct it does not become a bootstrap Paradox
