The witness was later accused of hoaxing his story, then incarcerated for a psychiatric evaluation. To many flying saucer advocates, the witness was a victim of the Government’s cover-up, and that reputation helped propel him into fame as a UFO lecturer. That career was cut short when he was convicted for grand theft and fraud against the people who had believed in him.
