One thing that I find interesting is how the news media (neither the major media, nor even the independent media) are NOT talking about what is REALLY going on in the Islamic world... namely, the obvious CIVIL WAR between Shiites and Sunnis. In a time when the popular headline-grabbers are finding it more fiscally productive to simply vilify the West, with the US as the demon nation and George Bush as the devil incarnate, such an approach ignores the fact that Islam has MUCH bigger problems in their own camp than any Western country has with their thuggy forms of terrorism.
While no major (or agenda-based minor) news outlet would ever wish to admit it, the signs are that the West is actually, currently, winning the war on terrorism. The greatest piece of evidence to this fact is, as pointed out above, the fact that the terrorist factions of Islam are divided along the same lines as the religious factions of Islam (Sunni and Shia). In stark contrast to this, the Western powers are united against both forms of terrorist camps. Sure, we may often disagree on tactics for how to deal with the problem, but we are not actively killing each other as a means to "prove" to our allies that OUR way is the BEST way to deal with the problem. Yet, on the other side of the gun, that is exactly what we see going on in the world of home-grown Islamic terrorism.
Here is a good article from TIME that loosely points out this problem, even if they do skirt the real issue and don't want to point out that the militaristic sectors of Islam can't unify against their perceived infidels.
