Teleportation

TimeTraveler23

Chrono Cadet
Hi,
This form is going to be for any ideas of teleportation. Last year as part of an honors program I had to do a project and I picked time travel...this site was very helpful. However, this year my topic is teleportation and I hope I can obtain some help here as well.
Thanks,
~Falker

P.S.-Anything that has to do with teleportation is welcome and I thank you in advance for all your help.

My biggest problem with teleportation is:

Will it be the same you coming out on the other end? Will the original person die while a duplicate is being created to live on with previous memories?

This also makes me question just exactly what we are. If you destroy the original person by converting all of their atoms into another element, then change/rearrange atoms at the destination to create the replica, its probably a new person. However, what happens if you break down a person on the atomic level and recreate them in a distant location using the same atoms? What if it could be complex enough to even rearrange them into their original positions? Are we those atoms? Or is it a new person that is being created regardless?

Let me see if I can summarize what you might be asking:

Can physical Energy be transformed to and with trans-physical Information?

This is what I always thought teleportation would involve: Exchanging Energy and Information.

being a star trek fan myself, teleportation to me means converting matter to energy and transdering the energy to another location where it is changed back to matter. the doctor on the original series didn't like teleporters because it essentially clones you and destroys the original

Let’s say that a person was teleported from one site to another. He may arrive in the exact condition as he left (although I still remember the movie “The Fly” and I have always wondered about that mishap happening with any or all of the millions of bacteria, microbes and other living thing that live of us!
).
My question is this; would that person retain the same memories?
Or even retain the same “soul”?
What is that thing that we call our “life force”?

By the way, while we are talking about star trek technology, wouldn’t it be great to have access to a fully functioning holodeck for one day?

The one that I’d have used would need some serious cleaning when I was finished with it!!!

Humans do not have a soul, you are as we, a combination of atoms formed in a particulat fashion, noting more, you as well as us can be converted to 0's and 1's and sent through a wave in the open air.

Wow. And you know this because...

Crap!
What’s the difference between being alive or dead?
Who are “us”?
Explain how - "you as well as us can be converted to 0's and 1's" - can be achieved?
How is DNA reconstructed into 0’s and 1’s?
What type of "wave" are you talking about?

And finally ......

Who taught you to spell?

I think the main problem is...it's kinda like a phone line...you have to have an actual hardline to the other end, or unless you can find some way to take an object's exact matter and transfer through the air...like a cell phone, because you can't destroy the matter on one side and create it on another out of thin air, the atoms have to come from somewhere....the speed of light would be the fastest means.....and nothing with mass can really travel that fast...requires too much energy to feul it....

Ok...here's the thing. I was wondering if anyone agreed with the idea of a 3-dementional faxing machine. A machine that was able to break humans down to the atomic level and send those atoms across cable wires or something of the sort and spit them back out in a new location, much like a phone with voices or a computer with images. Images are broken down, but recreated at the other end. I am trying to figure out a way to just transport the atoms not copy or duplicate them. Also, as to the recreation...the universe should supply a way to allow solid objects to break down and travel at the speed of light. Maybe even a tesseract to allow someone to move from one area to the next in next to no time at all. What do you guys think?

"Everything is impossible, until it is not."

ok so here's a problem with that
what about cellular activity?
like....you have to send the atoms across a hardline of some sort
which is mass, which cannot travel the speed of light, even approaching it would
take a lot of energy. now in the time it takes to send the atoms, they would still be active,
electrons especially, you would have to stop all atomic ativity, before you disassembled the person or re-assembly would be impossible, because the atoms would have changed slightly...and so I doubt the pieces would fit again. and if they did
wow, what a sophisticated computer program that would be to rebuild a human
piece by piece with no flaws.....
and don't you think we are lazy enough?
what happened to walking and exercise? hehe
it'll end up like the simpsons, homer will urinate from one room into the teleporter
and the other end is by the toilet, shortly after we reach this state....the entire world will die of lazyness in one beautifuly pathetic moment

Why not just time travel to anywhere you want, .0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 seconds into the future (or the past)?
