There is a great deal of evidence for exactly this. Indeed, each of the human senses is what we call "bandwidth limited", which means that it can only perceive some small slice of the entire frequency spectrum of physical phenomena. Take the eyes for example. We are aware that human vision can only perceive in a narrow band called "visible light". If you ever look at a picture of the full electromagnetic spectrum you will see that visible light is only a VERY TINY fraction of all electromagnetic phenomena.
Your idea has a great deal of merit...and many esoteric traditions from ages past state precisely this same thing. Good job! (And coming from an "aerohead" why am I not surprised?) :D
