Can someone identify what were they doing to the babies in the 1950s in these photos? Is it some kinds of medical treatment or experiment?

Probably rickets prevention treatments. The next thing you know they'll try vitamin D milk.

I don't know about the bottom one, but it almost looks like primitive lighting treatments for jaundice, but that's just a guess.

I think that the one standing around the light, is ma picture taken in Siberia of children standing around a Xenon light, to generate simulated sunlight for vitamin D.The others I think are a bilirubin light, to kick the liver into gear for primary jaundiced in babies.
