Stephen Hawking and Time Travel

The answers are all there in the first couple of sentences in the video. Stephen Hawking says that although he cannot move his body his mind is free to explore. We are all free to explore the past and the future in our minds, we just need to work out how to do it so we don't just imagine it, we actually experience it mentally without the need to be there physically.

The concept of physical time travel is much harder to achieve realistically, but may be possible if we can manage to tap in to the fourth dimension. The fact that Hawking raises these points so early in the video makes me realise that we are so close in theory to achieving the goal of time travel even though the reality is still a distant dream.

 
Absolutely and that should be the only way we time travel. It takes away all the consequences except a few. No worry about exacting change or anything. You see it like a video in your head, nothing more.

 
Amazing video. I didn´t realize the particle accelerators had already proven time travel. You think that would be on the news somewhere ;)

 
What happened is that the stupid scientists announced the discovery of time travel on the same day Kim Kardashian was married for the 4th time and it got buried on page 14. I mean, come on, we had to know who Kim´s 4th cousin brought to the wedding and what dress she was wearing.

I also read some research about another group trying to prove time travel by created a field in front of an object that would pull the object into it at faster than the speed of light, which would increase the length of the object for outside observers.

 
It would be a miracle if those yahoos get anything right let alone actually report some real news.

It's funny that you mention"Yahoos". Yahoo news is the worst and most biased reporting there is. They even exceed MSNBC.

If you're talking about the Italian OPERA Experiment then unfortunately you've been misinformed. They blew it and their paper has been withdrawn (almost 3 years ago). It was a faulty experimental design and when cross checked by multiple researchers the neutrinos traveled at the speed of light just as they had done in every other experiment prior to OPERA.

 
You would think this make the news though despite celebrity crap that fills the airwaves. Even if done right, I fear time travel will somehow be used in the wrong way and lead to horrible outcomes though I'm sure this will be beyond my time.
