Runners

Hello everybody I am a runner, and recently my love of running has become a little stale.

I forgot that running was always about fun to me and i started thinking only about winning races and going faster.

So I am trying to "rediscover" running for myself, any runners out there have any advice?

i take it you are an endurance runner, correct? how far do you usually run? why has it become stale to you?

i have a suggestion that helps me out alot when my trampoline routine gets stale. i jump on a trampoline several hours a day most of the time, and for a while it just got plain out boring, so i didnt jump for quite some time and i lost alot of my cardio. by the time it got fun to me, i had gained a few pounds and wasnt in very good shape compared. i then got back into it and got back into shape. it was a pretty fun challenge to me. maybe it would be a good challenge for you too.

i say give it up for a little bit and try something new. you might start to miss running and rekindle your passion. just my opinion, good luck. /ttiforum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thank you for suggestion Ruthless!

but I'm afraid that is out of the question, up to this point running has been a defining part of my life. In high school I was the crazy kid who ran all the time =P. I cannot fathom not running for any period of time over 1 day.

i quit endurance running a while back. i do sprints now. i jump on the trampoline for endurance now.

i suggest 40-100 yd. sprints. its awesome to watch your times get lower and lower until you can run 40 yds in 4 seconds :D

I am not much of a runner, Easdraagl, however, I do like to walk everyday. After walking the same route(s) for awhile, the whole thing tended to become boring and I had difficulty in really wanting to go.

I adopted a technique to use while walking...to make each walk a bit different. I make a list in advance and create a theme for each day of the week.

Some days I will focus on sounds...as I walk I really try to hear the things as I take the journey. My footsteps, my breathing, and any other sounds I encounter along the way. To really listen and be aware of these things...not making any judgments as to what the sounds may be, just to let my mind relax, and not to reason, but just to experience.

Some days are color days...picking a particular color, I then will look to see how much of that color I see as I make my way along my route. Each "color" day, I will choose a different color, to maintain variety.

Some days are used to maybe see how many different types of birds I might see...

There is quite a large list of things that can be added into the running, that normally might be unseen, unheard, unfelt and/or unnoticed. By creating such a list, when you make your run, each journey will hold a slightly different experience.

Thus, you are no longer just running, but having an adventure of discoveries and new experiences, each and every time.
