How would you be able to prove a time traveler is real? I'm trying to come up with a fool proof method and falling short.
No! Don't never ever try to do so.There are a lot of implications as to why you should not.The after effect if similar to going to somebody's gym club, but getting the crabs from an infected locker. How would you be able to prove a time traveler is real? I'm trying to come up with a fool proof method and falling short.
What I meant by seeing was to actually see the time machine and how it works by going back in time.I have to agree though that the only way to be 100% sure that someone is a time traveler would be to use that persons time machine to go back to a certain point of time you remember clearly.Seeing is not necessarily believing.
What about the possibility of there being a divergence between time lines like what we heard from John Titor?you could ask them to describe in intricate detail a world event that will take place later this year.
We had developed a first, basic wicket that any credible TT'er should be able to navigate right here on this site over the years. If a TT'er was real (including the alleged Titor), then they should have zero problem going back in time, accessing this forum in a year that we, the time-locked of today, choose, and have them insert a post (or a thread) within the forum. How would you be able to prove a time traveler is real? I'm trying to come up with a fool proof method and falling short.
Oh wow! That is awesome!! It's a really good idea, too. It seems like you always have hacks trying to lie to you, though. I will never understand the point of that.We had developed a first, basic wicket that any credible TT'er should be able to navigate right here on this site over the years. If a TT'er was real (including the alleged Titor), then they should have zero problem going back in time, accessing this forum in a year that we, the time-locked of today, choose, and have them insert a post (or a thread) within the forum. We have had one or two people who thought they were smart try to trick us by posting threads, or posts in an existing thread, that they thought would go unnoticed. But they are not accounting for the fact that there are some fairly intelligent people that hang out here. The key is that the person requesting the proof sets the terms of whether it is a new thread or a post in an existing thread, and what it says.
We even had someone create a sock puppet account to attempt to play both the role of the TT'er and the person demanding the proof, so they could have a conversation with himself and plant the thread post earlier with the hopes that no one would notice. That failed as well because myself and two others noticed the post when it showed up, and called out the sock puppet when they asked for it. As such, the person requesting the proof and setting the terms of the "proof post" in the years ago forum would have to be one of us, trusted old timers here on the forum.
So far, no one has been able to pass this test, yet it is a test that any TT'er would be able to readily pass.

And how do you account for the potential that they are faking their misunderstanding of how to use modern devices? It is important to remember that con men (or con people, as I should say in this gender-neutral world) are good at conning people because they are good at inventing all sorts of ways to fool you. They are good at pretending. In regard to a person from the past. I would ask them to use certain devices around the house. Observe them for a few days with the things of the house. If they truly show an misunderstanding of how to use a computer, microwave, bathtub, etc. then just maybe they had proved that they are form the past.
To Ceolaric, very good, comprehensive thinking. What may be no longer there, but still might are the original thread contents from Art Bell's early BBS on John Titor visiting there.__When a time machine of less effective design malfunctions, what may occur if unjust machine parts are substituted out of OEM status, is that time traveler's machine could operate out of original manufacturer's specifications. What about the possibility of there being a divergence between time lines like what we heard from John Titor?
Now that is a metaphor! The after effect if similar to going to somebody's gym club, but getting the crabs from an infected locker.
I believe this would not work because of alternate universes. A time traveler could travel to the year he was born, kill himself as baby, and he wouldn't disappear, because it would only create an alternate universe. With this method you would run into similar problem. There is a way to prove it but you would not get the answer immediately, if you were to meet a time traveller from the future you could ask them to describe in intricate detail a world event that will take place later this year. There is always something major happening somewhere in the world so you wouldn't have to wait long. You would then wait for the date of the event and see if the time traveller has given you a detailed and correct account of the event. Of course that plan would not work for those that believe in psychic ability, they would claim the time traveller is really just a psychic but it would be enough to satisfy me.
It's not your job to prove that a self proclaimed time traveler is real. That's the time traveler's job. There's no law of nature that requires a time traveler to shout out "I'm a time traveler!" Time travel doesn't depend on advertising. How would you be able to prove a time traveler is real? I'm trying to come up with a fool proof method and falling short.
lol... If I ever become a time traveler, I won't talk to you. It's not your job to prove that a self proclaimed time traveler is real. That's the time traveler's job. There's no law of nature that requires a time traveler to shout out "I'm a time traveler!" Time travel doesn't depend on advertising. Now, how does a time traveler prove the case if they choose to shout? Oh, a series of very concise, precisely stated, detailed short term predictions that can be easily verified. By short term I mean less than two weeks. They don't have to be Earth shattering events. Example: a series of a dozen verbatim quotes from specific newspaper articles in specific newspapers, identified a week in advance by date, section, page and headline would be nice.
Hey, I didn't ask them to shout it out. They did it on their own. If they thereafter want to play, "I don't care if you believe me" that's their problem. The conversation won't be very long, it will surely become very boring very quickly because that ploy has become a cliche and another wannabe will come to take their place before long.
