Has it yet been suggested that Titor was created by members of the TTI in order to attract new members? My understanding is that the frequenters of this site were fewer and surely of a different type than after people began Googling Titor and stumbling upon TTI.

MildSkeptic,

Yes. That has been proposed long ago.

In late 2001 the rumor was that this story actually started in your home town, Montreal. That was posted on Denny Unger's site "DarkPlanet".

About a year later I came across the Celebration Community BBS-Disney-TTI link and the fact that Raul (he owner here) actually lived in Montreal when he started the Celebration BBS and that he owned this site and was the SysAdmin and Moderator for the Celebration BBS.

Rather than beet around the bush I simply asked Raul directly if he was Titor, was a member of Group Titor or if he had in any way directly or indirectly helped Group Titor with the story. He said that he was in no way a part of Group Titor, that he was not Titor and that he did not in any way directly or indirectly participate or help with the story. For my part I digested what he had to say and concluded that he was being truthful.

That doesn't mean, however, that another member (present or past) was not Titor. I have good reason to believe that that is the case - that Titor had at least one other UserID that was created before TimeTravel_0 appeared.

One problem that I've had in attemptin to verify the information is that TTI was originally on Xone.com and it moved to this site in January of 1999. The threads from the old site aren't included here. There are a few posters and threads referenced that I consider to be clues but I can't go back to see what they had to say prior to January 24, 1999.

The other problem is one of IP's. Under the current TOS rules our IP's are publicly displayed. Under the old TOS rules (and they were in effect until just after Titor stopped posting) the IP is zeroed out. Raul instituted some changed just before Titor stopped posting and required members to register before they could post. Titor, as TimeTravel_0, was able to post anonymously. He thereafter had to register. That's why you see his latter posts as TimeTravel0 instead of TimeTravel_0. Apparently the underscore was no longer a valid character for UserID's. The public display of IP's came later.
