Merlin is looking ?BACK?ward to it.

Chrono Cadet
I flipping through "The Once and Future King", and it seems that Merlin grows what we would percieve as backward in time; that is to say, he remembers his death and everything between it and his experienced present, but will cease to conciously exist when he is born. Spooky.

Ever see the "backwards" Seinfeld episode? A classic, and classically funny. The Merlin thing is certainly deeper than this.

I once wrote a short story (quite intricate) that suggests that our souls "know each other" and live a life thru time just like our conscious selves... but in reverse-chrono order! The story even followed the souls of the main characters across the chasm of their births back to their previous deaths, and show how the souls knew each other in their past lives. I thought it would make a cool book and even cooler movie.

Indeed. White wrote the book in 1938 when quantum physics was in its infancy. "Remembering backwards" is a representation of temporal reflection symmetry. In 1938 it was assumed that reflection symnmetry was an absolute inviolable law of physics.

Hello Roo, Tikmovado, and MS:

Yes, I am interested in your short story too RMT. It would be an intriguing read..
I am flattered. However, I am not sure how thrilled I would be about posting it here. Who knows, just the fact that I shared the basic premise of the idea already might mean within a year or so you see something coming out of Hollywood with the exact same storyline.

Seriously though, this is one of the short stories I wrote way back when that I still think I would like to develop into my own book some day... perhaps as I ease my way into retirement. Of course if some "phat" publisher knocked on my door with a check today... /ttiforum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I know I still have it as I wrote it in my journal sometime back around 1990. Or maybe if you guys know any websites where they are looking for authors to submit stuff where the author could at least make some pitiful remunerance (and retain their rights to the story)... I might consider that.

I too have many ideas penned and stories written. I have written nigh on 120,000 words in a story that I started when I first came to Uni and wanted to express myself in literature. I wrote short stories and sent them to publishers publishers affiliated through the union and others that I knew to be intersted in the genre of my work. I met with mixed success, and even less when I showed some of them my work in progress, tlling me it needed revising and editing but that I had a very intersting and original concept. Since then I have had limited opportunity, due to study and a love of alcohol and women, to make a serious attempt to revise it.
