Just a thought...

In an discussion with another member of TTI, and in contemplating cultural differences and the tensions that arise due to mis-understanding those differences...it occurred to me that we as a society promote the ideaology of differences.

Recently, while filling out a form, I came across the question of "race/ethicity". My thought at the time was to check the "other" box and write in "Human".

It seems to me that we should be at a point in our social maturity to remove this question from any and all forms regarding race or ethnicity. After all...we are really one race, are we not ?

( Exluding those of you who are of lizardian descent here on Earth to mess with the natives )

I believe that an effort should be taken to have the "race/ethnic" question removed from any and all forms.

Comments or thoughts on this issue ?

I would have to say I most definitely agree with you. Interestingly enough, although they say that information is not used in the employment decision, I have seen otherwise. I used to work at a local retail store in the mall, a kind of "uppety" place. While working there, we had several applications put in with that information being "optional" on the application, however, I noticed that when there was an African American person applying and that information was filled out on the application, our manager conveniently "over-looked" that application... It is down-right WRONG! /ttiforum/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I agree %100, I think that should be applied to everything in life, Church, school, work, If we were all blind and deaf to social differences the world would be such a better place, A world where action speaks louder than skin color, and expressing your true feelings and beliefs without fear of oppression and submissive social behavior.

"The petition initiative (also known as popular or citizen's initiative) provides a means by which a petition signed by a certain minimum number of registered voters can force a public vote (plebiscite) on a proposed statute, constitutional amendment, or ordinance. It is a form of direct democracy. "

Change has to start somewhere.

There is a process in place for change.

Individuals either choose to stay informed, educated, and use the tools available for change...

OR

choose to allow others to determine what can be said, thought, or believed and even how to act or what can be done.

Granted, the path of change is difficult and is wrought with hazards, AND requires diligence and care.

Obviously, as an example, walking into the Corporate office's of any particular Financial Institution and declaring to the CEO that they need to make changes, might not work out so well as a starting point for change with the manner in which they do business. ( They're ol'habits )

In the United States, we have the means, as posted in italics, to create our own future. Will it change the old habits overnight ?

No.

However, every step that can be taken, must be taken, when and where it can be taken, and if enough people accept and wield the power that is inherent in every single one of us, we, as powerized individuals can create a better World, even if it is one step at a time.

Each generation chooses what it will pass on to the next generation, and I believe our generation has the potential to pass on something a little different than what was given.

All about personal power and choices...either you keep it, or you give it away.

What you do with your own personal power and your own choices, well, that choice is entirely up to you.

I write "Earthling" on those forms. We live in a society that promotes segregation through fences and cultural identities. Today it is taboo to insist that an immigrant speak English. In many states now, when you call a company, you get "Pressio uno vi spanglish", and "press 2 for english" second. Simple things like lack of a common language will only further divide this country until it no longer exists as single entity. (sorry for my beat-up spanish, but hope you got the point)
