Just a dream, but still...

Temporal Novice
Not mine, my mothers. I am a little girl, she is taking to me to my dance recital. I get lost. She goes looking for me. My older self, comes into her dream and tries to help her find my younger self. What if we time traveled and did come across ourselves in our timeline? Would we recognize our self being our self or would we be a stranger?

It depends on whether you would believe your future self in what she says, like in the Shining 1997 series you see Tony older version of Danny not to enter the room which is off limits but danny still does as he does not believe in what his older version was saying to him. So it could lead, to a problem like this and also it would be kind of strange if this does happen where we meet the other version of us. I reckon, that time change can be a thing which can leave us somewhere where we can't return back and also cause problems as well.

Your future self will absolutelly recognize the young one!! :)
Oh, lol. Glad, you are so optimistic!

Never watched the Shining 1997 series, so can not really relate to the total plot, but I get the gist of your point. However, in the case of never returning from the past ( that is, if any actually did TT), I really don't envision getting stuck in the past. Unless, of course, you were TT like in that old movie Time Machine and a contraction was used to transport. Speaking of that show, interesting how he sat in the machine and just looked out his window to see time change. When he finally did step off the machine to take a look at the world at various times, it was amazing to see how his surrounding changed over time. Interesting enough, I think he only went back in time once and decided not to stay.I wonder how many of us would want to go forward in time and stay, while missing out on what progressively happened to get to the future? I do not think I would want to skip through time.

I actually find this to be quite fascinating, I think we would know our self from whatever time it was we saw it. In fact I think it is possible to see someone before they become a part of our everyday life. I had this happen in a dream on more then on occasion, I would dream of a strange person and then I would meet them in real life. carl Jung felt that when we dream we often met different aspects of our own psyche. I think that is true as well. Thing is they may not look like we do physically, since they live in the unconscious.

I don't think that over all I would want to skip thru time either, but I do find it cool when I dream about something or someone and then it really happens. Last night I dreamt there was someone willing to pay me a $600 bonus, I certainly hope that happens.

Oh, I hear you about dreams and wanting some of them to come true. On the flip side, sure don't want some of my nightmares to come true. No matter, it can be helpful to pay attention to our dreams. When it comes to Jung or even Freud, some of the main characters of psychology, we can also go back in time (oh, kind of made a pun) to ancient civilizations, dreams have always been a subject of interest with interpretations, messages, predictions, etc. I agree, it is a fascinating subject, indeed.

I remember dreaming of someone several times when I was still a teenager. I would dream of him often and in my dreams we have this certain connection. The thing is that his face was never clear to me. I even dreamed once if me and that person in a house with a little boy who seemed like our son. I don't know if I dreamed about my future then because things seem to match up now, I am now married and we have a sweet little boy as our child.

This thread reminds me quite a bit of Bruce Willis' character from 12 Monkeys! (One of my favourite movies about time travel in addition to being one of my favourite films by one of my favourite filmmakers, Terry Gilliam!) I can't really elaborate as to why without spoiling the film a bit too much though! ;)

(I aware of the SyFy's new 12 Monkeys series, but haven't gotten around to checking it out yet... TV is much too fractured now and there are just too many interesting shows to keep with!)
