"Imagine the whole universe..is a small box, in a huge warehouse, in an enormous complex, in a large city, in a huge country, on a giant planet, in a large solar system, in a huge universe, inside a small box, in a large warehouse, in a big complex, in a large city, in a huge country, on a giant planet, in a large solar system, in a huge universe, inside a small box, in a large warehouse, in a big complex, in a large city, in a huge country, on a giant planet, in a large solar system, in a huge universe, inside a small box, in a large warehouse, in a big complex,in an enormous city."

Scale is important. I tried out Google Cardboard with my phone, and for the test I used a GIF of the earth spinning in space, rather slowly, in 3D, surrounded by nothing but black. It actually freaked my brain out a bit, and for the first time I got a sense of just how tiny we actually are. It's like looking up at a skyscraper for the first time. Or looking out and seeing the moon and realizing it's not just a decal that rises up and down - it's a place, you can see the ridges and then you feel so incredibly small.

It's simultaneously the most painful and beautiful thing the brain can endure.

The premade 'tours' are fun to watch, too. The coolest part was making it out of a pizza box which I did simply out of principle, since that's the attitude towards innovation I like the most. There are also plenty of games that are trying to use Cardboard in a way similar to the Oculus rift, so give that a shot. But the augmented reality features are the coolest part.

I have access (like that's a big security clearence lol) to plenty of carboard. I might not have access to much of the time needed to craft such a thing as a google cardboard though, but I'll eventually try to do it.

You can make most of it with a good pair of shears and some duct tape. You'll need a small pile of parts from the hardware store, and maybe some parts you'll have to get online, but it assembles quickly and is designed to be easy to make. Most of the actual frame is a single piece of cardboard just folded strategically.
