I wish I could travel 60 years ago today...

... and somehow remove & reshape all of the events that lead to the decision to use the first atomic bomb in a wartime situation. I honestly wish it had not happened. But in this worldline we live in, it DID happen. And because it DID happen I feel a great sense of remorse and sorrow that it DID happen. August 6, 1945. I feel sorrow for the Japanese people who were affected by this, as I feel sorrow for the reasons that lead up to all the deaths and events of WW II.

If we learn from nothing, may we learn from our own history!

I wonder, if the atomic bomb wasn't used.....and the horrific humanitarian effects seen. Would it be possible that later mistakes would be made whereby we'd still be trying to recover from multiple Hydrogen bomb explosions...

Hi Olly,

Yes, a good point. I have often wondered how the world (our worldline?) would be different if it were NOT the USA, but rather some OTHER nation that first used thermonuclear devices in war? Would the world be "better off", "worse off", or just simply different and not really better or worse?

This kind of "wondering if the past were different" thought process has some ironically symmetrical (& opposing) features when compared to the "wondering if Titor was real" thought process that some seem to go through about the future. Comparisons of these views may also reveal why the hoaxters of The John Titor Experiment were forced to craft their story/legend/urban myth to be a Time Traveler from the FUTURE, and not from the PAST:

A TT'er from the FUTURE has "built-in" cover for why their story cannot be proven. John Titor used this hedge in the form of worldline deviation. I have pointed out often that he used a percentage measure for this deviation, yet he could never define the reference standard measure which is the foundation upon which ANY measure of percentage must be based.

The John Titor Experiment could never be pawned-off if Titor was a TT'er from the PAST, because he would not have the "built-in" protection afforded a future TT'er. We all know the past... some from a generalized manner, others in a more specific manner, still others with detailed measurements and observations that categorize the past. IOW, there is WAY TOO MUCH existing evidence to overcome if you wanted to try to hoax yourself as a TT'er from the PAST.

It makes me wonder how a John Titor-style hoax would have to be crafted in order to get people to believe you were a TT'er from our PAST. A much tougher order, to say the least.
If I were to become a TT'er from today, and traveled into my future, how would I try to prove to people that I am from a worldline "within 5-10% deviation" of theirs? /ttiforum/images/graemlins/smile.gif
