Temporal Novice
How do you guys think that time travel is posible. aproching the speed of light everything starts to slow down. at the speed of light everything will stop. how can you go faster if you can't move?
how can you go faster if you actualy slowing down? just wanted to know.

Instead of thinking about "external" velocities (i.e translation and/or rotation), how about thinking more about "internal" velocities, more commonly known as VIBRATION?

Do you think if you changed your vibrational frequency that this would make the possibility of "time travel" more believable? (I put time travel in quotes because I believe what we view as time to be an illusion, and that when we actually achieve time travel it will be something other than what we might commonly envision).

When I was younger, I posted a theory like this. I proposed a "universal" frequency. Anything vibrating (or made to vibrate) at this frequency would become one with the very fabric of the universe itself. The original idea was in reference to attaining access to alternate universes, but the idea was flawed in that the 'romantic' idea of multiple universi has yet to be proven, and if it was proven, then how specific would the frequency have to be?

Rainman,

Excellent. That is a very good description of the equivalence of mass and energy - outward and inward motion.

In E=mc^2 we aren't really indicating that we convert mass to energy or vice versa. We are indicating that they are different aspects of the same thing - a motion.

Energy represents an outward motion - acceleration. Mass represents an inward motion - inertia. But it is a matter of perspective. If we "see" a subatomic particle at rest WRT to us we would say that its mass was resisting acceleration. But if we looked inside the particle we would see a lot of outward motion - energy. Internally it is not at rest at all.

We "converted" mass to energy by doing nothing more than changing the scale by which we viewed the event.

It is my understanding that the E in E=mc^2 is the "rest energy" of a particle. Even if a particle has no kinetic or potential energy, it still has some energy. The full equation for the total energy of a particle is actually E^2= c^2p^2+m^2c^4 and it takes into account the particle's momentum as well.

Scientists suspect radiation (some math indicates it's existence) from black holes, this travelling backwards in time, faster than the speed of light. Also a recent Scientific American article spoke about some evidence for superluminal gravity particles (gravitons) whose propogation speed is manny many times that of light.

I cannot remember the issue or title of the article but I will try and find it and post it here.

I don't think there is any reason to believe any more (even in the constraints of conventional science), that there is nothing that travels faster than light. The situation is that in certain frames of reference superluminal speeds are impossible, in others it is possible. Science will find the means to manipulate gravity in order to place individuals artificially in frames of reference that are not subject to those conventional "rules". For example, John Titors Twin Singularity (if true, I am as yet undecided, yes despite the "photographic" evidence - I can still find justifications on either side of that argument).

We may as the human race evolves develop a spiritual ability to change our frame of reference, without the use of technology, and experience the universe without being limited to space/time (out of body exerience?) but modern physics, let alone Natural Science, doesn't even touch on this (yet!)
