Hold On A Minute! WHO Wants the Draft?

My poor little pea brain seems to be getting quite confused (is it hard to believe?)

I thought the following paraphrase represented one of the "negative spin" arguments AGAINST voting for Republicans in this past election:

"Vote For Republicans - Vote To Reinstate The Draft"

I know I could resurrect some DEM propaganda that used this in their stumping arguments FOR them and AGAINST their Republican foe.

But look here what we see reported in the media today:

Charles Rangel Wants The Draft Reinstated???

Whhhhhaaaaaaaaaaa?????????

RMT,

"My poor little pea brain"

Admitting you have a problem is the first step to resolving it :)

But Mr. Rangel has consistly for last couple of years been calling for the draft.
He complains that only poor people serve in the military. And wants to see all americans serve in a "national service" type of draft. Something like Israel.

It is not remotely a conspiracy.

And only posted here because I am a 'democrat/independent'

Cigman, I have to side with RMT on this one. It was my impression that a good deal of the military troops were national guardsmen, many of whom were college types.

No one is forcing the poor to serve in the military. If there are poor, therein, it is because they are often kids from depressed areas of the country who can't otherwise find a decent job. But with the draft, the poor would be forced to serve.

Also, it might be asked why the federal government should be given the power to decide what it would like members of the public to do. They forget they are employees of the public and not divinely appointed rulers.

Also, a standing army is just a little too convenient for politicians to use without additional supervision or actual need.

Also, and least, I don't like Rangel's sleazy appearance.

No Cig.... hold on a minute.... I think you are dodging the real issue again. ;)

It is not remotely a conspiracy.

No, what YOU are addressing (which was not my point) is not a conspiracy. I will conceded to you that Rangel has been wanting the draft... in fact, is was his bill that the Republican House defeated in 2003... to put an end to the fear-mongering by the DEM party that "a vote for the Repubs is a vote for the draft".

THIS is the conspiracy I am talking about, and I can understand why you don't want to address it, because the evidence it was a conspiracy (to besmirch Republicans) is so evident. I know that you will usually tell me you are "too busy" to read the links that I provide to make points and show evidence. But look back to the Prez campaign of 2004 for all the proof you need:

So reinstating the Draft is the best "solution" that the Dems and Rangel can come up with to "solve" the Iraq problem? Hmmmmm..... yes, I can see how that is quite a platform to present to the people... I just wonder why it wasn't touted to the people BEFORE the election???

And now today we see Pelosi distancing herself and their proposed agenda from Rangel's remarks. Hmmmm, yes.... I can see the strong, unified position of the DEMs. Looks like they are going to get a LOT done, huh? :) It's just too bad that old Nancy could not strong-arm her pet bulldog into the House Majority Leader position like she wanted to.

PB,

"No one is forcing the poor to serve in the military. If there are poor, therein, it is because they are often kids from depressed areas of the country who can't otherwise find a decent job. But with the draft, the poor would be forced to serve."

They could become homeless instead. :) And the rich would be forced to serve as well :) I think this one of the most ridiculous paragraphs ever written. :) Please read it over and over until you realize it :)

Recruiting stations are located in depressed areas of the country. Urban ghettos and rural areas. They even target depressed school areas for recruiting.

Mr Rangel even admits it is not a serious bill. It has no hopes of being supported by Dem leaders of the party. It is only a tool to invoke discussion about Iraq and recruiting practices. And how almost no one in Congress has a son or daughter serving in the Military. And how easy it is for them to support police actions or wars when no one they know is at risk.

I believe this only RainmanTime sucking up posts, if RMT is your new cool dude to hang out with... Find new friends :)

Unfortunately, now you will flame all my posts like RMT :)

Charlie Rangel is angry about the Iraq war, the one that Henry Kissinger has told us we can't win. Thanks, Henry, but most Americans figured that out before you did. Rangel saw combat in Korea. Kissinger has only seen combat on TV. That might have something to do with why Kissinger thinks our troops should stay in Iraq even though we can't win.

Kissinger says that if we leave now, all hell will break loose and Iraq will never achieve stability. Never mind that all hell has already broken loose. Never mind that Kissinger said the same thing would happen if we left Vietnam--all hell would break loose and Vietnam would never achieve stability. Vietnam has become so stable that Presidents Clinton and Bush, both combat cowards during the Vietnam war, have made well publicized, utterly safe visits to the country Kissinger used to think didn't have a chance without us.

PB,

My buddy LOD (Lawerence O'Donnell) of the McLaughlin Group and the West Wing agrees with me... :)

Yes Kissinger is a joke... Not even American :)

LOD a fan of the Cigman :) Maybe...
