Hi gang,

It's been a while, huh? Anyway, someone wrote me looking for a series of time travel books. I've looked high and low at Amazon, B&N and Borders, and I just can't find the series he's talking about, so here's his e-mail. Let's see what you can come up with:

At least one of the books took place in ancient Rome. Unfortunately, I loaned the books to someone who never returned them, and I haven't been able to remember the author or the titles. Does this ring any bells? Any help is appreciated.

Isn't it interesting how stories of time travel and displacement are so intertwined and really very similar. I have searched for your book series but I can't locate them either. However, your cover art may have changed over the years and has been reissued with new covers. This is not an uncommon practice.

The story you state reminded me of several others such as ; ‘All Our Yesterdays', a Star Trek story about a Mr. Atoz, the librarian, who has been transferring people into the planet's past using a machine called the "atavachron" since the planets star is going to nova. There is also an episode in the Stargate series that has the population of a planet moving into the past to escape destruction. There are many more. Even the old original ‘Outer Limits' had 2 or 3 episodes which explored the same phenomena. Check out the current TV series ‘7Days'.

Isn't it curios that much of time travel seems to be pointed into the past rather than the future? Is it possible to travel into the future when the future has not occurred? Would it be possible to travel into the past when the past's future (the present) would be destroyed and therefore not have a true origin. Would time eventually repeat itself on the multitude of time-lines only to reach the same extinction point? Many questions to ponder.

Back to your original dilemma..........I will continue to search for the book series.
 
tried to look for your book series but was also unsuccessful. It is hard when you have to look by book description and not author or title. tried several searches. even looked under books that had series and couldnt find what was described. will keep my eyes open. :-)
 
Your series is turning into a pain to find. Without a certain time period, arthor, or publisher company, it's like finding a needle in the hay stack. The closest thing I could find was the Pliocene Exile saga of books. About four books origanally which has expanded into eight which overlapses the Milieu series. These books were written by Julain May and the first books in the series was The Many Colored Land. Another series was The Time Patrol by Poul Anderson. Unfortunatly these books for some reason are out of print almost and you would be very lucky indeed to find them. Do you have a rough idea when you received these books. 70's-80's-90's. It would shorten the search time.hmmm.
 
Could the books which he is looking for be the series written by Madeleine L'Engle, one of which was titled "A Wrinkle in Time" (ISBN #0-374-38613-7)? There were three books in that series and they were written in the early 1960's.

These may or may not be what he is looking for, yet I highly recommned those stories to others interested in good novel writing and time travel.

Still looking. Other books which dealt with the moving of entire population in time, includes 'Worlds to Barter'(1931). It tells how the descendants of mankind on a dying Earth return to the twenty-second century and send that period's population into the future, taking the younger Earth for themselves. That books author was John Wyndham under the moniker John Beynon Harris.
Another tale using that same plot was 'Our Children's Children'(1973). This book was written by Clifford D. Simak.
Perhaps the book was 'Plane People'(1933), where a catastrophe on Earth forces an escape flight to a two-dimensional planet, by Wallace West.
