Astronomy Picture of the Day
When you look at the massive amount of variety of galaxies, and stars, and stellar formations in our vast universe, and understand how time is affixed to the measure of the speed of light, we are looking back in time at a huge number of galaxies where life can be, and has been, existant.
I would think that, any of these galaxies could easily contain an alternate universe to our own. An alternate timeline of evolution of life, where things happen differently from our manifestation, but in which the players of that timeline are relatively the same as in ours.
Regardless of whether this is true, the pictures on this website are awe-inspiring. They make great windows wallpaper!
