IgnorantSentient
Chrono Cadet
Well, the movie Donnie Darko is actually what prompted me to come back to the forums (previously TheSadOne), I just had a chance to watch the movie and I must say it blew my mind. I'm sure there are many of you here who have seen the movie, so I have some questions. I'm just looking for some insight.
I should warn you all that this contains heavy spoilers so if you havn't seen the movie I advise you not to read on... Here goes:
While it seems obvious to me at the end of the movie Donnie is laughing because he realizes he has to die in order to spare everyone else, there are some problems I have with that.
1) How is it possible that the engine that crashed into his room was a part of the same plane that crashed with his mother/sister onboard. They would have had to be at the same moment but obviously the plane crashing happened later in time, which means the engine crashed back in time.
2) How did Frank the rabbit speak to Donnie while dead in the future (ghost?). The only explanation I can come up with is the fact that Donnie was supposed to have died, but meanwhile if he had lived eveything would have happened because of Frank. If Donnie hadn't died and Frank not intervened then future would not have been what it was. That is to say that the future is only the future because that is what he saw it as. There was a mentioning of 'the path of god' in the movie, saying that god determines the future, was it that Donnie could just see and/or understand that path? even so, how does that explain Frank speaking to him?
3) What does the time portal in the movie theater represent?
4) how would him dying stop a tornado from hitting his house?
There are others but it's 4:48 in the morning and I can't really think of them now.
So, I am of course talking about time travel in a single dimention, unless multiple dimensions was the point the whole time?
any insight into any of this would be mor than greatly aprecaited. put my mind at rest.
