Chains of Events and Consequences

I have been thinking a lot lately about how a chain of actions are related to one another and how changing any part of the chain may or may not drastically change the future.  This is related to time travel because many wish they had a time machine to go back and change their past.

I thought about the events that lead to the death of my rabbit.  If I didn't go to visit the bears with my kids, I wouldn't have met the "rabbit lady" who let us hold bunnies, I wouldn't have grabbed her card, I wouldn't have later adopted two, one wouldn't have died while I owned her, and my family wouldn't have been heart broken.  See the chain?  So, what would have happened to my life if I didn't go visit the bears that day?  Would it be as simple as what I stated above, or would something else have happened?  They say that karma is the natural consequences of my actions.  What would karma bring if I prevented myself from going?  Just something I've been pondering.
