When we messed with the Discourse forum software in the past, one thing I liked about it was the category explainers. Take a look here:
https://meta.discourse.org/c/community/65[/URL]https://meta.discourse.org/c/community/65
Each category in a Discourse forum has an "about this category" thread created automatically. Its meant to help people understand what kinds of things should be posted there.
Examples:
https://meta.discourse.org/t/about-the-community-category/67750https://meta.discourse.org/t/about-the-community-category/67750
https://bbs.timetravel.institute/threads/about-the-urban-legends-forum.8387/https://bbs.timetravel.institute/threads/about-the-urban-legends-forum.8387/
Mine is too dense and needs to be trimmed down so people can digest it better, but you get the idea. It's a thread that explains the expected topics, gives some examples and helps people make good threads.
If you guys want to, and you feel like you understand the category, I could use help writing one of these for each category. It doesn't need to be lengthy, but try to make it as helpful as possible. Feel free to rewrite mine too if you think it can be improved (it can).
