Alligators

I will be posting photos of the alligators on my property for no particular reason. I've given them all names. I don't know if they are male or female, so I've just chosen a gender.

This first one is Bubba. He is 2 feet long and quite young. When I moved here a year ago, we had 10 baby alligators and he is the only baby left.

I have been studying these alligators for a year now. They communicate with different sounds. A growl can be a warning or a greeting.

A hiss from their nostrils is also a warning most of the time, but Buddy occasionally uses it as a greeting for me. Most of the time, though he just swims to me. (They are very used to my presence). They also have a whiny whimper which they use as a complaint or to express disappointment. Alligators know their names and can distinguish between similar names such as Buddy and Bubba. When I call Buddy, he comes. When I call Bubba, he comes and then buddy sees him and wants to get rid of him. LOL. Yes, they are very jealous and possessive. Alligators cannot love because they simply don't have that part of their brains developed, but I do believe they can "like" or "prefer" or simply maybe even "own". LOL. An alligator owns me. hahahahaha. Eventually, these guys will be old enough to mate and will leave. Until then, I will enjoy them. Gators are misunderstood!

BETTY THE GATOR IS A MOM!

Today, I saw a baby gator. I tried to get a photo, but I apparently missed. I didn't think Betty was big enough, but she must be, because she was constantly guarding one spot. We will see more if they start coming out!

I saw buddy attack and death roll a small gator. It started on land and ended up in the water. He was even dazed afterwards.

I wish I had my phone handy.
