A friend of mine at work had been an electrician at a facility that developed new technologies. One of the devices he saw being tested while doing some electrical work was a weapon that broke down metals to a molecular level and then was infused into a lazer beam. When the lazer hit the target, the metal would begin to reform and do quite a bit of damage.
I suppose it had to with frequency, and as the beam sruck the target, it would cause a change in the flow of the beam.
I found this to rather interesting. Seems to be along the lines of a transporter beam. Looking forward to the future, I imagine a time when perhaps they could beam sections of a space craft into orbit to be assembled outside the gravitational forces.
