It would be possible to return from the past. All needed would be a tac. signal aimed at one point in the future to activate the return portal. But the only problem is getting to the past.

fist of all traveling into the past would mean going faster that the speed of light, which is not possible...there is no such thing called a tac. signal but there are believed to be tachyons..theoretical particles and there have been no signs of these "particles"

As plausable/unplausable as anything else is a senerio where it is a easy to snap instantly back into the past but then having to always to take the slow way back into the future, one hour at a time. Where you could never physically "catch" the future to report your findings.....or collect your paycheck.
