OK, at the moment I am have problems with accepting either the multi-verse or the linear time stream concepts but I think I have a theory to reconcile both of them.
Okay first the problems:
Linear-This theory leaves no room for originality on behalf of the human race (any race, sorry didn't want to sound xenophobic). There is no 'first loop' ie If a time traveller only has the ability to time travel because his/her future self came back to relay all the technical details then who invented it in the first place...
Multiverse-This theory leaves too much room for originality. What if another yet similar universe exists identically similar to our own up until say 5 years ago. What happens if that universe invents time travel and goes back to before our universi branched off and chages history? Okay that debunking needs a bit of work, but another flaw is if the time-traveller doesnot cause relevant change to history so that in the new time-line a different version of his/her self would go back in time to the same position inadvertedly producing two time-travellers and so on(There's a posting to Lee a few lines below which goes into this detail in more depth)
Right that's clear(I hope that's not heads shaking I hear). So what I beleive is a wayto reconcile the two theories. It deals mainly with the way in which diffracted quanta appears to randomly exchange dimensions mentioned in 'Quantum Physics and Reality' by Ronald C. Pine. Okay my idea goes something like this: The traveller will and will not leave this dimension. On one plane he will leave and achieve his goal of time-travel in an alternate reality. On another level he will remain thinking that the experiment failed. Now a loop can be formed. In this new reality the time-traveller will or will not inhibit his own travel. If he does well and good he changes history well and good. If he doesn't alter the fact that travelled he will return to the past without meeting himself.
I'd be the first to admit it needs some work but it's late and I'm tired so goodnight.
