My idea is to translate the thousands of colors in a cube or cylinder of light into data to send enormous amounts of data in a single pulse. It would not be fiber optic. See article. Thoughts?

The "colors" in light are different frequencies. When we talk about color we are generally talking about a very narrow band of the electromagnetic (EM) spectrum - visible (to humans) light. The different frequencies is the information. It could be binary bits, pictures, voice, music, TV, radio, whatever. Manipulate the EM radiation and you can pretty much do what you wish with the amount and type of data contained in the light.
